Spawn points
« on: December 06, 2002, 12:41:30 AM »
Just had a thought.. and since that is rare, thought I'd let everyone know.  :D

Oh yeah... the thought.....

Would be great if the spawn point for GVs was randomized a bit more so that one pnzr couldn't just baby sit a spawn point and get quick/easy kills.  Wouldn't need to be much of a variance, anywhere within a 500 yd diameter circle.  Would at least give the spawner a chance to start the engine and jump in the gun.

Also... how about a way for GVs to RTB from a spawn point (besides driving for 5 hours)?  Something simple like.. if you have no damage to engine or tracks/tires and NME is not within 4,000, then you can RTB be despawning.  If NME in area, you can't just warp out of danger; so there wouldn't be a chance that someone used this just to avoid getting kilt.

Whatya think?

There already is variable spawning when you spawn away from your base. If you up at your hanger though then you stay in same spot.

About the RTB issue, I think the best thing is to try and deack the enemy field so you can land there. That counts as a succesfull landing for those that didnt know.

Thanks Booky... but that's why I said randomize it a bit more.  I've noticed that (at least from my perspective) there are only a few spots within each spawn area that you spawn to and they are relatively close together.

De-acking and landing works.. but does not help when you spawn somewhere only to find you need to climb a 4,000 ft mountain to get to the NME base.  If nothings around, why not allow an RTB.

Not sure of all the possibilities, but if you are very near the VH or on a runway or in the middle of a town at your base, you land.  If on the runway at NME base I think you land... not that I can recall making it that far :)

wern't we able to land successfully a long time ago if you spawn a gv but didn't move it?

The best solution though is to test vehicle spawns for those ludicrous spawn points before using the map in the MA. It's really that simple.

If you can't drive from base A to base B, why should you be able to spawn near B?  And if you CAN drive, then the spawn point should be along the most likely path traveled i.e. on a somewhat level path - like a road.
