Words escape me. That's about the most ignorant piece of garbage I've ever seen posted on this board.

The man's job was to drop bombs and kill the people the US government says he should kill. If one is a little cynical, one would say that a fighter pilot is little more than a gadget pushing murderer/assassin hired by a government to do its dirty business.

Just had to say that to counter all the "for gof and country" stuff  .

Freedom is secondary or tertiary. Nice to be fighting for freedom, but that ain't his job.

Also, I would say that if I chose to fly a danish F-16 fighter and was accepted yadda yadda yadda, I'd fly for ME mostly, not for my country. i'd fly because it'd be the hottest ride in town, not because I am a great patriot.

I think the vast majority of fighter pilots elect to be fighter pilots because of the pucker factor, not the patriotism factor

Bah, patriotism is the last refuge of the scrouge  .

I find him being alive unlikely, especially as the Iraqis weren't that eager to hold on to prisoners of war. Even allowed McNab's SAS dudes to get away.

To me it seems like either a cruel trick played on the relatives of the pilots, or a last ditch effort from them to keep up some kind of hope.

At any rate, I don't think one can really justify calling him or his family *frauds* because of what the military decides to do.
Gotta respect him for having a dangerous job and doing the best he can, and his family for coping with it.

Ahhh Santa spoken by someone who has nevered served.  That is not why people fight wars.  You do not fight for yourself, you fight for your buddy.  The fear of letting your friends down is sometimes overwhelming.  I dont think, "Hey I am cool, this AWACS thing is super powerful".  I think, "Please god dont let me screw up and get my buddies killed"  The military will change you forever and for me it was in a wonderful way.

stsanta, you have no clue as to what it means or takes to be a military officer. You have to think and believe commitment and follow through with it.

The attitude you just displayed with your post would be the thing that got you washed out of the program. Virtually nothing in the military is done on an individual basis. Your comment indicates a lack of ability to be a member of a team and that is certainly no way to act in the service.

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

It's cynics like StSanta that are the reason military members aren't allowed to take an active part in politics...  SOMEONE has to be around to protect him and his oddball ideas.

Seriously, StSanta's idea about fighter pilot's motivation is a bunch of crap.  He simply doesn't know what he's talking about.  Walk a mile in my shoes...

As for Blur's noise, his post was amazingly crude and insulting.  The facts show that his theory is roadkill, and I can't imagine the depths of hate he must be feeling towards someone to come up with such a thoughtless comment.

Check 6 blur, you made some enemies son...
