What i think of AH and its community !!!

Hi all and greetings to you.

I have been on the online fighter sim scene for years, mainly with Warbirds for about 4-5 years and that is were i stayed for most of my time. I loved old WB's and watched it thought various upgrades and changes.
A while back i tried AH and although the graphics and extra depth of game play wooed me greatly, i had a major problem staying alive let alone getting any kills and after my trial 2 weeks i gave up on it, thinking the modelling was far to severe for me.

So i went back to WB's but after a few months things at WB's stated getting a little stale, they changed the main arena into a W.W.II arena and that made things very boring. Every time you went up you either battled a A6M or 109 and that was it, A6M could out turn anything else and 109 pilots gained huge alt and came in fast for HO's
Things got very repetitive very quickly.

So i gave AH another try, but this time actually subscribed to give me time to adjust hopefully. After about a month i started staying alive longer and occasionally even shot something down!!!!

Now, a few months later im about as good as i was in WB's but AH is far better and had greater game depth and options to make a more enjoyable flight sim, also you guys are just great too, i thought you was all a bit snobby first time around but i was wrong, you are all (well mostly   ) a great bunch of guys to fly with and against

there is just one thing i find a little peculiar

Complaints....

Seems that no matter what you do, there is always someone who thinks you are pulling some kind of stunt or trickery or just plainly doing things wrong

WB's had its moaners too but i have never had so many moans in a short period than i did at WB's in 5 years.

Here are a few of the pointers im talking about, this is no moan itself, im not that bothered just pointing things for the hell of it

1. "DARN ACK HUGGING TIFFY!! COME OUT YOU RETARD"

Ok what dose this chap want me to do? he is circling the airfield and has a huge ALT, E, Speed advantage over me so i have 2 choices.

Either slowly make my way outside the protection of the acks and give him a nice slow, level flying target to shoot at or circle around the field gaining alt to make the fight allot more even.
Its 'tactics', im using the acks to offset the huge position advantage he has over me, so what's his problem??  cant he get any kills that move any faster than an asthmatic Hippo with some heavy shopping?  sorry if im spoiling your fun!! you think i want you to shoot me down? lol

2. after spotting a loan F4U flying nice and level at 10,000 feet, unhurt and fully loaded, I scream in unseen and BLOW him outer the sky, you should have heard the abuse I got for that one lol  , just because i just ruined the 15 mins it took him to grab the alt lol, apparently i was doing wrong and it was a dweeby thing to do. Erm no, i just took you out fair and square, you should keep an eye on your 6.  

3. spotting a lone Troop plane circling near by one of my fields i swoop in and shoot him outer the sky. Now i don't consider this a hard kill or any test of my fighting capabilities but he has the ability to capture my filed if the acks are down and he sneeks in, so YES i will shoot at you, do you think im stupid??  but boy you should have heard him scream lol, why was i shooting at an unarmed target blah blah   lol

4. following down a NME i had just invested half of my ammo into, i blew him out of the water as he tried to ditch, now this guy was not in the slightest bit amused, again i was a dweeb and couldn't shoot anything that was not stationary. Well actually i can because i just shot his a** out of the sky and forced him to try and ditch and im not going to let my kill award get away, sorry.

On this note i would like to point out that as far as shooting ditching aircraft or vulching is concerned i think its all fair and good, the only time i dont shoot a downed aircraft is if

A) i havent actually shot at him and he is not my target, then i let him ditch, no investment no interest.

B) he is trying to land his bomber at his base and is on final approach and i haven't invested any ammo in him, then ill let him land

apart from that i think if you engage into battle with someone, its fair to follow them all the way to the deck.  

I could go on but these are the most common ones lol, seems like some people have an unwritten rule book that changes with each of there flights lol

but apart form the moaning from victims, AH is THE BEST and so are you guys  (Group Hug)

I know what ya mean. It does seem that we have more than our share of whiners, at least more than we had in WB anyway. Sometimes I take the comments as taunts, which is fine by me. Other times tho, I just can't understand why some think they can't be shot down, lol.

I came over from WBs too, and was surprised at the whining on the common channel. Squelching 1 is now always my first order of the day.

obear.... I think you nailed it about WB and about AH.  Yeah... Allied vs axis is soooo predictable and stale and lopsided it's not even funny and believe it or not... there are guys who want to go to that here!  

Now... bout the complaining..... notice when (and why) the guys were whining.   Now some guys just can't take being shot down under any circumstances but...  for the most part, people are complaining because they are not getting enough action.   They spent "15 minutes" climbing or looking for a good fite or whatever.   The arena/strat setup is bad.  the fites are mostly all gangbang or be gangbanged because the fighter hangers can be killed so easily.  If you are lucky to get into and area (usually cv's) where there is a lot of action with fairly even numbers you will not see people complain... they don't have time.   idle hands and all that.  I believe this will be fixed tho and the complaining will go down.  

when people are told they can't take off from  any field close to the action and have to spend hours online vainly looking for a good fite that is not either 8 vs 2 or 2 vs 8... or no fighters at all just a few osties...tempers flare.   It really is that simple.

A caveat on the community issue-

I think that, for the most part, anyone in here would hand you their shirt if you asked for it. Whatever backgrounds we have we are united in an interest in this WWII simulation. I believe that we are all basically pretty nice guys that let competition get the better of us occasionally.

The BBS is another animal altogether. It seems so easy to get caught up in the "mob mentality" and follow whatever established behavior seems normal. This is why the tone of the board is important- if it is normal to flame and be flamed, what else would one expect to see here? It isn't something that is isolated to a person or two, and it isn't necessarily a case where someone has evil intent. It usually is only someone expressing themselves in a way they feel appropriate to this venue. HTC has recently taken steps to improve this vital aspect of the BBS, having been met with various degrees of support. I guess/hope in the end things will get more to the way it used to be.

BTW, welcome to AH, it truly is a fun game. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the game, just be sure to do what you want to do (not what others tell you should be doing  ).

Howdy Obear!

I whine and complain like mad on the BB (according to many) , but in game I never comment on what somebody's choice of plane or tactic is, its their $30.00, not mine.

I have said things I regretted, such as last Sunday I called AlgyFT a jerk for blowing the Yak9 away that I had been working away at with my C.202 for the last few minutes.  I got the assist, he got the kill.  From his perspective it was getting away, from mine it was 150 yards in front of me missing half of its elevator and pretty shot up.

But I was wrong in what I said.  I later apologized, but that is no excuse.  I should never have called him anything.


The only behavior that really, Really, REALLY bothers me is people who shoot up falling, out of control, flaming wrecks to steal the kill.  Thats just low IMO.
