Eject Gunner?
« on: December 12, 2002, 11:20:34 AM »
I took a long long Lanc sortie the other night, and about 55 minutes into the flight, someone asked if I needed a gunner.  Sure...so they came on board, and once they did, one of the buffs exploded.  Greaaaaat.   So, we fly on for another 20 minutes and make our first pass on target at 24,000ft.  Well cons approach and we all know how easy it is to pop buffs now.  Somewhere along the way, my gunner went AFK or just wasn't there but I couldn't jump to the guns.  Needless to say, about 10 seconds later, i was pasted and sitting in the tower thinking I just wasted an hour and a half for nothing.

Is there a way to eject a gunner?  Apparently this guy went AFK or Alt-Tabbed to do something else until we got into bad-boy country.  It would be cool to toss them out of the gunnery position if they aren't going to shot back!

Thanks

Agreed, it's extremly frustrating to have your gunner go AFK and not be able to do anything about it.

What makes it even worse is that you can't see your gunner firing, so the only way to find out if they are is to ask.

Agreed

The cons were just sitting back there, slowing closing in, and not seeing tracers from my buff, or hit sprites on the closing con just made me wanna scream  LOL

Perhaps throw the gunner out the back and onto the con's windsheild?  Can a body-thru-a-prop be coded in  :)

I don't know about anyone else but I havent landed a bomber mission in a long long time.  Once the cons spot me, I'm dead meat.  If I get in and out unspotted, that's different.

*a note to all future gunners*

please do not forget to shoot off all remaining ammunition prior to going AFK.  the extra weight of the ammo only slows down the bomber.

thanks.

It was said they weren't considering letting the positions unmanned by gunner be manned by the pilot and vice versa?

Considering?
When 1.10 was released, it became possible for the pilot to gun the main buff, and the gunner to gun the other two.  Untill you're down to just one buff, there is no reason not to have a gunner.  The convergance between the formation buffs is too close in to be of use anyways.

Still, when you're in a bombing run you cant gun.  You can't tell if your gunner is shooting.  And you can't forcibly replace him with someone competent.  Once you're down to a single bomber, it gets worse since he's the only thing keeping you allive.

agree totally,

had some fool join who insisted he was a good gunner and then proceeded to fire at cons 2.6k away! lol

I kept saying 'stop firing you moron!' but he ran the ammo out and then complained when i refused to rtb :)

God id have loved to dump him out into his parachute over enemy territory :)
