Lethality Question
« on: March 20, 2001, 02:49:00 PM »
I've pretty much flown all the aircraft (fighters) the last 7 or 8 months in aces High.  My question to all is this.  Are the 20mm MG cannons on LW aircraft the weakest of al 20mm in the game?  For instance, I find the spitIX more lethal then the fW190D-9 and they virtually have the same caliber guns! As a matter of fact, the 13mm MG is slightly larger then the .50 cal on the spit. (12.9 = .50cal.) I'm I nuts, or is there reason, is it velocity? rate of fire?  any answer to this would sure clear this up to me.

thanks Hajo

hi hajo,
actually its pretty correct

currently the german 20mm guns are about 80% at strong as the hispanos, which is correct when you do the math regarding explosibve power, kinetic energy and soforth.

the mg131 has only 50% of the energy of a m2 browning, sothis is also correct.

id say that with excpetion of hispano effectiveness versus armor gunnery is accurate in aces high.

When I get a sealed tight bellybutton and fly LW, the stuff I hit seems to die well.  When Im hit by LW I seem to die well.

The only problem I have with LW cannon is a low ROF for snap shots.  Many planes just fly through the bullit stream without taking hits.

Hajo one thing that makes a big difference is grouping. Like the hispanos on the chog seeming more lethal than the tiffie - its because the guns are closely grouped.

What I found in my 190 days was that this was noticeable between the wing root guns and the outer wing guns.

IE, dive on a buff, hit him with wing root guns only and he will disintegrate pretty quickly. Try the same thing with the outer guns and the lack of effect is noticable.

Whenever I flew 190s it was with wing root guns only and shooting only inside d400. Doesn't leave much behind.
