Worth to get new graphic card with dated processor?
« on: December 13, 2002, 06:15:18 AM »
Current system:

PIII-800 MHz
Asus CUSL2 motherboard
Asus Geforce2 GTS 32MB, V7700
Creative Soundblaster Live! 1024
384 MB Ram
Win98SE (danish version)

As you can see it is beginning to become rather dated. I was initially gonna get a new proccessor as a provisional solution, as I figured they'd be practically giving P3's away, but it seems that the price of a PIII-processor in the 1.5GHz range is just as pricy as a faster P4?, which I don't think the MoBo can handle.

Anyway, I've then been thinking of getting a state of the art gfx-card (some GF4, not found a certain one yet), until I sometimes later next year will change the rest (keeping 19"screen, HD, speakers). But will there be a marked increase in performance with that bottleneck of a processor, to justfiy the ammount I would have saved by waiting to buy at the lower price?

You'll see and increase in FPS... I don't think it'll be that big of an increase but once you decide to upgrade the mobo/cpu later on that GeF4 will still be plenty (and then you'll see a really big increase).
