Need a good car racing game
« on: December 17, 2002, 04:50:15 AM »
I got Grand Prix Legends which is excellent but one is not always set up for REALLY hardcore driving.

So I have Need For Speed: Porsche Edition too. Very amusing. The physics aren't that sophisticated but enough so for it to be fun.

Are there other games like this, i.e where it isn't arcadish but rather more simulation like, but still with a focus on gameplay (I just love being chased by cops :D).

Have Nascar 2000 too, but never did enjoy circular tracks. oh, and I got F1GP 2 and 3, but they seeem lame after having played GPL.

NFS Hot Pursuit maybe? Or is it dumbed down?

Any suggestions will be appreciated :)

Rally Trophy (download demo first).

btw if you can find "Mercedes-Benz truck racing" buy it. Pretty hard but looks great and sounds amazing.

The most excellent combination is a two-part process:

Part 1: Buy a copy of EASports' F1 2001 (last year's model, should be cheap)

Part 2: Go to http://www.rsdg.net and install their Le Mans, Sebring, and Zandvoort tracks, along with their new Sports Car Pack.  The d/ls are free.

Congratulations, you've now got the best ALMS race car sim around.  I have F1 2002, but I find I keep going back to the ALMS mods from rsdg.net.

I also have the NFS: Porsche Unleashed sim you mentioned and its a lot of fun but for the simple damage modeling and simple physics.  It also has a problem with lockup on my machine for some reason.  Its the only game I have that does that.

I also enjoy the Papyrus NASCAR Racing games, painting my own cars and racing them around Watkins Glenn.  Papyrus is going to release their final version of the sim in February due to EA Sports buying an exclusive license from NASCAR.  I hope they continue to do racing sims, maybe do a real ALMS racing sim.

Live for Speed is a fun, free game with decent online play (careful, its addicting).  I also play F12002 - love it - but make sure you dowload the grip fix.  NASCAR games are crap - who wants to drive in a circle for 3 hours - and NFS:PU is great fun if you can get over the "less than realistic" phsyics.  At least they modeled the trailing throttle oversteer - cant beat the 73 Carrera RS.

Alright chaps, thanks. I was under the impression EA's F1 game was arcadish though. Will purchase 2001 and see if it's good.

Thanks for link Ghosth, will dl now. :)

Still looking for a job, as soon as I get one I'm ordering new throttle + rudders and after that I'll be back in AH. I was actually sick of it, but now I'm starting ( a wee bit) to want to play it again :D.

Rallisport Challenge is pretty fun.  It's not as realistic as Rally Trophy, but it's very entertaining and the graphics are great.

You could also get EA's F12002 and download the Sportscar add-on here It's one of the finest most polished add-ons I've seen for any game, I'd happily pay money for this if they decided to charge.

The F12002 demo should still be available for download - see if you like it.

I'd be more inclined to go with F1 2002, a better all round F1 sim and most of the mods are being made for F1 2002 now such as the GT mod pictured above and a pretty nice Alfa 147 Challenge add-on

There is also a Sports Car mod being done for F1 2002 with new tracks etc:

Thanks revvin and nothers. Gonna dl the 2002 demo and see if I like it :).

Hope it can run on my crap 1ghz machine. Gonna upgrade as soon as I get a job and with it some cash. Am living off saved-up reserve capital right now :/. Heh, not even eligible for welfare because I had the sense and responsibility to save for a rainy day. I looooove our socialistic systems way of punishing responsibility.

F1 2001 is $12 bones at Wally World, F1 2002 is $20 on sale now. It's worth just getting what everyone else will have for the extra 8 bananas, in F1 2002 Santa.

I'll gladly send my 2001 copy to anyone that would like it that at least has a wheel and some interest, to get them hooked.

I spent lotsa $ on TEN in Nascar2 while most people here played WBS for equally ridiculous money and am a big fan of Nascar, but F1 2002 is really, really good. I can’t drive the cars Revin likes in that GTR mod, they are too hard but I should ought to be able graduate to the advanced models in time. Ironically, I thought the F1 cars would be impossible, but they brake and handle so well in comparison, it’s been a surprisingly decent learning curve. As good as the Nascar titles, and better in some ways.

Like AH, F1 serves as a game/simulation that gets you interested in a real event/sport/whatever. And it’s worth that alone.

I also downloaded the Rally Trophy demo, and although not as intriguing as the Rally vid Funky posted and me wanting a CART sim as good as F1 with tracks such as Elkhart Lake, it’s so damn cool now that’s going to be another huge distraction. It’s just insanity that stuff. Fun game too.

Santa, you proven that too much school causes serious damage to the brain! What happened? Lost your wings? Damn, leave the earthworms play in the dirt and form up with us again - in the skies where the eagles belong! ;)

---

Ok, ok, a good race can be fun from time to time but hey, nothing beats takin the full 3 dimensional freedom!

I mainly mess around with driving games because my 3 year old is nuts about everything with wheels! His favourites are Rallisport Challenge (awesome landscape, arcade but fun physics) and Knight Rider (right, the game with Kitt, Micheal Knight, Bonnie  and Devon - very, very arcardish - but hey, you can do all the stunts!!) ath the moment. Flying is (still) too complicated for him... ;) but I am working on a future LW ace here!

Now get your Grossen-Arsch in the cockpit again!!!
Real men fly Radial!
