Fuzing???

Re:  HT's previous post to stop suicide jabo's, did fuzing get implemented in this release for bombs?

I noticed this as I was trying to stop an nme tiger from reaching the safety of the tower on our base and since I was in a stuka didn't really have time to grab some alt before hitting him.  THe result is that I came in at a shallow angle and dropped two 250kg bombs at him and neither time did I hear an explosion ( This was in two seperate passes)...look back, no craters and the tiger is still happily driving towards the tower.

I think HT was looking at this as a possible solution to stop suicide jaboing and was wondering if it was included in the release but missed getting added to the release notes.  If so, was a fix also implemented to stop dive-bombing 4 engined buffs??  (Although with the 3960lbs of luuuuvvvv that a stuka can carry...who needs em :) )

Fuzing has been around for a few months at least.  You probably didn't notice it because this was the first time you had to defend against GVs on your own field.

A bomb must travel 1000 feet through the air before it will be armed for detonation.

This is total distance of travel, so you can drop bombs from altitudes less than 1000 feet, if you know how to arc them in.

Ok, so what is the threshold for fuzing then??  Alt or velocity of bomb?

I don't think that is entirely true. A couple of weeks ago I was helping take down a base in the baltic map and flew in low on a VH in an F4U-1D with 2x1000 dropped them from about 500 feet (sea level) while in a very shallow dive of about 15° or so and nailed the VH. It was an NOE raid with a pop up to over 500 feet right before target. I was less than D700 away (I know that because a Bish P40 flew right over the VH in front of me) when the drop happened. so if anyone wants to figure out the distance the bombs traveled then go ahead. I don't have the time or the inclination to do so. :D

Anyway the VH went up in smoke.

Wouldn't D700 be 700 yards?  Your bomb then traveled a minimum of 2100 feet then.

Damn Mickey you are right. I was sitting here thinking about lengths of pipe and hoses for work while reading.

Nevermind Midnight; I had a huge brain fart.
