A squadmate is trying some new joysticks and the X45 is one of them. He is having trouble getting the hats to work correctly.
I've heard that it works with some operating systems better than others and that some 'button programming software' is better than others also.
Can you fill me in on whats the best way to get this stick to work and thank you for your advice in advance.
I can't help him much being a CH guy.

Again thanks for any help given,
fuzeman

I have an X45 that works perfectly for me.  I had the X36 before, which is the same stick only without the gay powder blue base and LED buttons, so that helped a lot.  Have your bud email me his specific problems at jtweller@earthlink.net and I'll see what I can do for him.

2 things you can tell him right off the bat, however, that may clear up his problems:

1.  Turn off the autoloader for the stick config and load your config manually.  That's the only way to be sure your stick gets programmed.

2.  If the X45 gets programmed OK but quits working completely (as in joystick axes as well as the buttons) after some random but short period of time, buy a powered USB hub and plug the X45 into that.  It seems that all those gay LED buttons suck too much juice for most on-the-box USB ports, and that shuts the stick down after a few minutes.

I was trying one with XP, latest drivers, Saiteks own software, everything worked like a dream (all hats, rotories etc).

I use dhauzimmers drivers and hazardscript.  Click here for dhauzimmer's drivers.  And here for  Hazardscript.  A little more complicated, but well worth it!!

Thanks for the replies guys. He was testing out 2 Saitek sticks and he thinks he is going to stick, no pun intended, with the X45.
Now he just has to hope this one doesn't meet the same end as his previous one.
It was executed by his wife.

Thanks again, I guess we can close this one out.

Hiya Terror,

I have a X45 also in Win98SE and have loaded the DZ drivers correctly and I am using the default.bpf.  I have downloaded HS and JHSgui for making HS profiles.  However, it is kicking my arse.  Could you possible send me your profile so I can maybe catch a clue?  Thxs.  You can email it at awrotor@telocity.com.  Really, really appreciate this.  Feel free to include any tips in that email :). Thxs.

Ok Straffo,

Are you using XDprofile?  I have done more reading on it, and I'm starting to get a clue.  However, I cant see how to get the scripts to show in the GUI window.  Do I have to make a text file and save it somewhere in the XD directory for the GuI to see it?

Boy, am I dumb!

Figgered it out.  Now to see how I can break this thing hehehe.

However, if you can give me a clue on how to setup the rotaries, I would appreciate it.  I am thinking of setting one for flaps and the other for elev trim.

Saitek X45 functionality
« Reply #12 on: December 26, 2002, 09:15:10 PM »
I am using an X45 on Win 2K and it works fine when I don't have a specific game config loaded.  When I load a custom config then only my axes work.  All of the other functionality is lost.

When I unload the config profile then the AH defaults that are mapped to hats & buttons function as expected.  I can't get any rotaries to work.

Ideally, I would like to map the rotaries to head/view movement, is this possible?

Just a side note: the custom config functionality of the stick works fine in other games, just not AH.

Thanks,
-B

bjazer I think you need to assign DX functions to the buttons in your custom profile for the game to pick them up otherwise the game doesn't see them. I assign all buttons in my profile with keyboard commands.

Thanks!  I spent some time mapping stick buttons in AH so this seems to be pretty effective.  I will try the DX approach too.
