F6f5 in WB vs AH
« on: May 02, 2001, 01:56:00 PM »
was HTC perhaps leary of making the f6f5 overmodeled due to what happened in WB w the f6f5?
could this be why they added the viscious stall model to the AH f6f5?

just a theory
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

I don't know about any conspiracy or anything like that, but I have wondered what was up with the F6F. I haven't had any numbers to back up any thoughts, so I have kindly kept them to myself, but it does seem a little more- shall we say- vicious than similar sized a/c in the game?

If there is a plane in the game I think has it a bit wrong, the F6F would be it.

Its stall model is the most brutal I've seen.  I'm sure Cit has seen as bad in the P-38, but I don't have much time in the 38.

Its strange.. the F6F-5 handles pretty well at speeds as low as 90 IAS, but if you even remotely stall in a turn, you instantly snap roll to the right.  Its really a squeak when your down around 100 feet off the deck.  Any stick deflection after that instantly stalls you again.

And, for the sake of Deja (Rolls eyes again)..this should be in A/C forum.

Furthermore, ENY value of 17? What gives, I dont remember seeing any cats accept for the first tour we had CVGs 1.5?

I quess i could dig through my stats, but i dont remember the last time a kitty bit me.

Lets give the cat a bath cuss i wanna play with those KI-61s:>

Oh.. yeah... sorry.

My differentiation of various AH topics is sometimes sketchy.  But I fail to see how this relates to Boeing in any way Rip.. you sure you should be posting here?

You know, I think this should be in the gameplay forum.    I'm getting kind of tired of every single thread these days having a couple people making totally unnecessary comments on where it should and should not be posted.  I've kept quiet until now, but it's really starting to irritate me.  What does it hurt to have it posted here?   (It is related to Aces High afterall, and this is the general Aces High forum...   )

Anyway... back on topic now:  Yeah, the f6f sure has nasty stall spin characteristics.  I used to fly it a lot, once you know the limits it can turn pretty well, but you will lose the fight if you stall it.  I still prefer it over the f4ud for Jabo off the carrier though.  It climbs a little faster and has a better view overall.

I would also suggest looking into the TBM as well...it's stall behavior = 90 degree + snap roll. In other words, pretty much identical to the F6F

Actually, this thought had crossed my mind. I am a purist perhaps, but I preferred the 1.03 flight model. Things being relative I believe the F6F is a bit out of sync with the rest of the set.

It's not bad, you have to yank pretty darn hard to get it to drop over.
