Now's our chance....
« on: December 05, 2000, 08:21:00 PM »
....to show HTC we will support an Historical Arena!

With the devolution of Aces High back to Roaches Low anyone who is really sincere about HAs must take themselves to the SEA Med Arena.

Put away your N1ks, Zekes and Blue airplanes, put away your(my)B17s, your Lancasters, and your Ostwinds.

I will fly the Med terrain alone all month if I must but I will not fly the Ostwind arena.

Come join me, any time after 5PM Eastern US time almost nightly.

I urge all AH fliers worldwide who are serious about HAs to take their flight time this tour into the Med, it is the only historical terrain we have, USE IT.

Sure, there will be very low numbers when you have time to fly but you will make your point.

WWII was not a furball with low production planes or vehicles determining the course of events.

I know that to many and probably most AH subscribers Aces High is a cool airplane game and that is great, I have no problem at all with that and it would matter not a bit if I did.

I would like my time with this fine piece of work to be spent on more historical endeavors and hope enough of you feel the same so I do not have to spend this tour alone in the Med.

BUT, if no one shows up you can bet there will be one guy around who knows every inch of terrain on that map.

TO THE MED!

There is simply not a large enough customer base for HTC to be splitting it into two arenas.  If you want an HA, the best thing you can do is recruit new players to the game.  When the community is large enough, Pyro would consider a HA concept I'm sure.

Also, preventing the CM's from setting the SEA as a HA is something HTC must do.  It just doesn't make sense for them to allow the CM's to go creating alternate arenas.  That's HTC's decision.  The SEA is just for special events.  If HTC allowed it to be set up as an alternate arena it would ruin it as a special events area... that's not the point.

Now if you want more historical matchups, you can just get busy and come up with some special events to run in the SEA.  I'm sure HTC would be more than happy to accomodate you in this regard.  If you really want a HA, show HTC you are serious by running HA type special events as frequently as possible.  That way everybody wins.

Excellent post Lephturn. Pyro is against an HA due to experience. The HA in WB was a flop most of the time. Heck, unless there was an event, hardly anyone was there. Wouldn't have been an HA if Pyro hadn't given in, because as I recall, he wasn't really keen on the idea to start with just for that reason!

You are right. Want an HA, make some events. People aren't going to show up on a continual basis if not, IMHO of course  .

Leph,

I dont think the suggested move to the SEA is made so much as to make a request to HTC for an HA but to protest the forced move for this tour to the beta terrain.  Cant say I particularly enjoy the beta terrain either.  Osty spawn points are WAY too close to fields.

Ram1 and Vertigo had a great momentum going in the WB HA.Sure there were ebbs and tides, but overall it was reasonable visited for a long period (at least a couple of years?).I had some of my best online experiences there ever.
Not sure how it works these days though.

I understand your point Dingy.

All I can say is that I still make the same recommendation.  Don't want to fly in the current MA terrain?  Organize a bunch of events in the SEA and have a blast.  Everybody wins.  If enough folks do the events in the SEA due to terrain issues, I'm sure Pyro would get the message.

OK, Afrika Corps is over, right?

Next HTC big scenario is in the spring according to the Special Events forum.

I cannot organize a trip to the mailbox.

I will fly in the Med SEA with anyone or alone.

If HTC wants to dictate that everyone not running or involved in a scenario fly the main arena they should close all the other ones.

I am not trying to split the customer base.

The customers may fly in any open arena and if there are 2 in the Med and 200 in the main what does it matter?
HTC is still getting its 10 to 30 bucks a month.

HTC can turn off the late and non theater planes in the Med and anyone who does not like it can fly all planes in the main, what is the problem?

HTC can leave all planes on in the MED, who cares?
Anyone serious about matchups will not fly Blue, Japanese, Russian or Lancasters and the inevitable anyones without a clue or a care will bomb arond in whatever they like and annoy people, such is life.

I intend to bomb Rome a bit later, even though there is no city there, Axis are warned.

OK, so far 4 different guys have shown up, only 2 per night though.

Now all we gotta is get them in at the same time.

Tommorrow night(Friday) after 5PM Eastern US time I will fly the MED, bombing Axis installations with or without escort or opposition.

If you are bored with the Main come fly the semi historical MED.
