Here is one that I am thinking about pulling the trigger on in the next few weeks. Has anyone used a KDS monitor before?

75 Hz is a little on the low side, even at 1600x1200. At work, we try to use a minimum of 85 Hz. My 22" Iiyama Visionmaster Pro 510 runs 1600x1200x32 at 100 Hz and it's very nice. The monitor is what you'll be looking at all the time, so don't scrimp - it's even worth sacrificing other components.

If a friend has one, go and look at it.

If you have the money, invest to a good quality TFT flat screen..

I didn't care for them much, but after getting used to them at work, this 19" Trinitron @100hz still gets to my eyes far worse than a nice TFT screen.

The new TFT's are fast enough for games, you have to check the native resolution (the one you'll be using) and refresh speed when you buy it.

Typically it's ~40ms which is too high.. The good ones go as low as 15-20ms which is good enough for games.

A good TFT-screen for gamers is for example some Iiyama models. Low price, good quality.

Also Hitachi's new models have a good response time (16ms) and come in around $600 for sizes comparative to 19" CRT screens.

Edit: Uh I just saw the screen you were looking for was at the $190 range.. Lol. Anyway.. as I said if you got the dough..

oops in that case I still recommend Iiyama. 19" CRT is good and low price also. Dunno how much in US but in Finland it is about 240 -250 eur = almost 240-250 USD.

All my customers who decided to buy Iiyama have been very surprised its quality. If looking for best I'd take a Sony.

I can go higher on the price I was just looking at what they had available and the resolutions it would push. I can't handle paying the big money for a Sony or some of the other big brands but I am going to check into the Iyama.
