A microwave is a great appliance. If you really need to use one but do not have one handly... Tough.

If you really need a gun but you do not have one handly...

maybe it's because microwaves are just a damn tool.  it doesn't matter if you buy a spendy one (do they even make those anymore) or the $45 k-mart special. all it does is cook a bag of pop-corn in about 2min 15 sec.  nothing really to talk about.

guns on the other hand vary widely in power, acuracy, handling, and dependability based on caliber, action, brand, and model.

by the same token if your thread would have been- "here's a pic of my new screwdriver" it would have got about as many replies as the microwave, maybe less.

but if I where to start one- "here's a pic of my new 'Dewalt, 24-volt, cordless, saws-all' you'd see pictures roll in.

we like guns we find them interesting, and we all have personal preferences. the are fairly expensive for decent ones so we don't just impulse buy them.  once you find out exactly what you want many times you have to search long and hard to find the exact model and caliber you want at a price you can afford (my father has been looking for over 10 years for a good condition, reasonably priced, pre-64, ruger black-hawk, .41 mag)  so you feel proud of yourself when you work, save, and search, then finally get what you want.

it's a goal atained thing not a 'mines bigger than yours' thing.

so stop trying to psycho-analyze everything.  just because we like or own something you can't(or are afraid to) own doesn't mean we are crazy.  maybe you have real trust issues with the people you are around.

maybe brits are terrified to let others own guns 'cause most of the people they meet aren't stable enough to give a gun to.  I don't know,  never been there.  so maybe you can help me out.  what is it about your average brit that his neibors don't want him armed.

btw to save some time on future posts. "here's my new left sock" and other such posts won't get much responce either.

Erm... the most polite people I have ever met are the Japanese, and theirs is an unarmed society.

You don't have to fear that the person you are socialising with has a weapon, in order to be polite to them.

A polite society is a polite society.

beet1e: Capt. Apathy -  Erm... the most polite people I have ever met are the Japanese, and theirs is an unarmed society.

It's the tradition that was established when it was not so unarmed. It needs a few generations to gradually disappear. Of course their process of desintegration is slower because they lack diversity - all kinds of it. But they will get there eventually, given a chance.

And you have to ask as well what "force" drove them to become so polite.

Perhaps it was the incredibly small amount of time it took to have an impolite person's head rolling off his shoulders after insulting an armed person?

You mean Beatle was just kidding about buying a new microwave oven? Given the state of the British economy, coupled with the 25 year lag in technology, I thought a microwave oven was as pricey as an electric toothbrush in Great Britain- and just as rare. LOL Good one, Beatle, ya fooled me. :)

Afraid?  Me, afraid?  I go out of my house every day, unarmed. Something that some people over there can't or won't do. Maybe I'm not the one who's afraid. ;)

You're confused about "fear".

I'm certain I don't ever worry about violent crime; that's probably even less than you do. :p

I doubt you understand what I'm saying though.
