QUAKE OR SIM ???
« on: December 05, 2000, 08:50:00 PM »
Not much of a writer i spew words like larry king.
It seems to me lots of the originals have bailed the game sim whatever...
Does hitech care? When is the historical arena coming for people who dont want to take fields with an anti aicraft vehicle or HO in a blue titanium bathtub or a plane that runs on viagra (NIKI).
I promise to remove myself from the whining in the arena and remain silent.
I will wait for another month to see how thingsd turn out. Perhaps WW2 online will be true to people who like acurrate simulations
with missions goals and authentic match ups.
OK hitech toadies let me have it bash away.

Not gonna bash, but I wouldn't put all of your hopes and dreams into an unproven product just yet.

AH may not cater to what you want, and when/if WW2Ol comes out who's to say it's going to be anything more than the simplest of flight models around there on the net?

I grew up on the Main Arena concept and have been loving it ever since 1994. I don't understand why so many yurn for "flying a mission" concept when it's so readily available already in the MA, but very few take advantage of it. If you can't think of the words, let me help you, Mission Builder. Same thing that WW2Ol is using, but obviously it will be so much superior to ours because it's historical matchups. Everyone here flames away at some guy for flying a N1K2 or a F4U-1C when the same arsenal is available to all countries. Doesn't exactly scream out "unfairness" to me, which many are yapping about.

Woops, going the wrong way with this sorry. hehehe Anyways, what I'm trying to say is if you think that it will be that much different than what you see here it won't be. Different name, different game, same people playing it.

That and you have to wait around for a mission to begin anyway, you want to wait 15 minutes for 15 guys or do you just want to grab a wingman right off the bat and begin whatever you want to do?

Simply put, same things that can be done in WW2Ol when/if it comes out can be done here. The only thing is, you need the people with the motivation to initiate these coordinated attacks. Placing rank on someone does not neccessarily declare that they will without a doubt lead you onto victory..... if they lead you at all.

Fly scenarios.  MA is just a training ground.

Like I said in another post, the tools are there, you just have to make use of them. Friday night Ripsnort put 1 mision after another up, I believe it was the longest time I ever sat in front of my computer at 1 time.
As far as historical arena...Im not against it but its been done before and imo didnt work. Log on see 5 to 20 in the HA and 150+ in the main...where are most people gona go?

I'd love to be able to fly in scenarios, but time zones exclude many people from participating. Hell, if there are 30 people in the arena during my time that is alot. Until AH gets more players from Australia/NZ and other non-US time zones, the MA is all we got.

HTC are too afraid to split the player base up. We probably wont get an HA, Axis vs Allies or whatever you call it even if the main arena have an population of 200 everyday...

I first played this map a couple of months ago, and at first I enjoyed killing gv's in the tiffie.

But after the 50th flak-wagon it gets a little boring.

As for WW2OL, I really can't see it being any good for a couple of years, if it doesn't fold. I haven't been here since the beta, but I can imagine all the bugs that revealed themselves since (and are still out there). Multiply this by four and consider the very limited open beta plane-set (Spit, 109 and Stuka are the only planes I've seen on their site), and I can't see the air combat being very sophisticated. And with players screaming for more naval units or particular tanks, how much time will be devoted to providing a realistic aviation experience? I think people should be a little less premature about WW2OL; it's got a long way to go.

This needs repeating.

The tools are there, you just have to make use of them

It's a simple as forming or joining a quad that likes to operate the way you seek to when online.

I don't get it... If you want to be bored you can do it in the arena by changing your flying style.   You can go to 30k any time you want and probly find 1 or two others of like minds.   If it's that you want everyone to be equally bored then you can allways create your own "realistic" scenario.

I like the "quake" set much better than the "phoney realism" set.    They aren't as pompous and they don't lie to themselves as much.
