competition is bad
« on: March 24, 2001, 11:32:00 AM »
why? each flight sim company excels in 1 area but is lacking in another. If they somehow all got along and worked together, we would have the perfect sim.

case in point, Aces high flight model, ballistics, and view system are #1. But other stuff, like cockpits, terrain,  and special effects arent up to snuff.

warbirds has crappy ballistics, and flight model, but their new 3d terrain is real nice and they can make awesome skins for their airplanes. I wish we had this stuff in aces high.

Il-2 has *breathtaking* cockpits, and really cool looking trees and armor. But who knows how the flight model or view system will be? And the maximum supported for multiplay is 32.

Obviously aces high has the things that are most important in a sim, but i want them all. Its just too bad that no one company has acquired all the talent needed to make that happen.all.

Well if you leave the WW2 area, operation flashpoint is...well amazing..the demo is better than most full version games, it will be the first boxed sim I will ever pay for.

For those who dont know..Operation flashpoint is just like what WW2 OL CLAIMS to be doing, accept its set in a cold war era.. but it definatly will be a force to deal with in the upcoming future

Graphics: As good as you see anywhere today.

SYSTEM LOAD: not to bad, it runs smooth as silk on a Athlon 800 with a V5 and 128mb ram
at 1280x1024x32

Terrain: Truely revolutionary in its use of trees and bishes and forests in true 3d, for cover..ive never seen anything like it..EVER..it looks better than IL2's terrain...and it is actually here and isnt a resource hog.

Gameplay: Amazing, in soldiers aircraft, and ground vehicles, all are modeled in depth right down to the treds waving and conforming to terrain to the way the soldier's finger moves when he pulls the trigger...oh and get this WHEELS ACTUALLY ROLL

Sound: Great, a BMP fires a shell over yer head and ya hear it wiz by and if something explods far away the sound takes longer to reach you...very well done

Stability:  ROCK SOLID, havent had it crash yet, of give me ANY problems

AI: so real..its kinda freaky...cant explain it further than that..ya got to be there.

MULTIPLAYER:
about to be tested in the next few weeks AFAIK

PRICE: GOOD, You buy the sim and Multiplayer is FREE any user can host and it will be supported by gamespy and M-Player and such.

To go a bit out on a limb..it is the best game I have played...  EVER.

what amazis me the most is that even if the Multiplayer is a flop it would IMO still be one of the best games ever because the AI is so well done.

However based on the level of precision and examples of sheer talent i have seen in the rest of the sim, I doubt the multiplayer will be anything less than stellar.

There is no and never will be a perfect sim. Simply because number of oppinions = number of players.

And competition is good, believe me  . What your "Perfect" game will be after one year? Bad support, no updates etc.? Who need it if it is only ONE game in the market and people has no choice to switch to other game? Why to update, be polite etc.?

The cockpits and terrain would be *really* easy to improve upon. The special effects are just fine by me, but yeah they could be better.

The problem is, who wants HTC to go back and improve these things, rather then move forward with bigger and better?

Competition is GOOD Zigrat.

Let me put it this way: If HTC never left iEN to create AH, it would still be 2$/hr to play WB and AH wouldn't exist.

Who is this imposter Animal? The -REAL- Animal would have thought of something much more witty and rude. This substitute just doesn't cut it. What next? A softspoken and timid NathBDP? I hope not.

Don't get me wrong, I love AH but I agree that a more in depth terrain/cockpits would be beneficial to AH, even if it's just aesthetic.  I like the new historic airfields and terrain in WB3, and even in WB2 the ports/cities/terrain looked better IMO.

I still think competition is good, if there was no competition I don't think we'd be getting as many new planes as we have been doing and besides, they could charge even more than the already fairly high $30 (not complaining, but stating a fact that AH is most expensive   .

whoopeeIT

Who the hell is this guy? Go get your own BBS to harrass pal.

As for zig,
Sorry, but this utopic idea of yours is just dreaming. Its not like HTC will call IEN on the phone and say "Hello friends! I am having trouble with my terrain   I was wondering how you did those smooth shorelines??"
Until a company comes out with a perfect online sim, this is just wishful dreaming; and its very hard that it would happen since Sim developers work on a tight budget, while the 'FRESH', 'HIP' and 'IN YOUR FACE' action game developers get a limitless budget to work on "XTREME SK8BOARDING","DEER HUNTER 7", and "EVERQUEST 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO"

Competition is GOOD. If there was no competition, we'd still be playing AIRWARRIOR: 2 at a very pricy rate; and you'd be posting a thread on why there should be more competition

what i am saying is i simply want to have a company where hitech and pyro make the flight models, etcera, those guys from IL2 make the airplanes and cockpits, and the wbs guys make the terrain wiht that cool 3d water. why cant 1 company get the best employees. If they did the other 2 would go out of business cuz their product would suck.
