help with Screen Shots
« on: March 24, 2001, 06:08:00 PM »
I want to load the image ass##.bmp into Photoshop or Illustartor and I am getting error message. The only proggy I can open this Screen shot is MS_Paint.
Now there I can save it in JPEG format and that will allow me to open JPG in Photoshop. Quality really suffers while making this BMP--->JPG converting in Paint.

Some programs don't like the AH screen shots, while others do. I can open them fine in IRfanview or Paint Shop Pro. Editing is a bit of a pain but not entirely horrid; just the limits of the image format. Try using an evaluation copy of Paint Shop Pro 6.02 or 7.02 and you'll be able to open them fine. Irfanview will convert them to another format, resize them, or do some really basic effects. It's nothing terribly staggering, but it's a handy small program. You can use an old trick with it too. Open a file, then turn right around and save it as the same file type and name. That should unstop your PHP glitch.

<wonders why he's using Adobe's $400 POS program over PSP>

Dmitry,
I use PhotoShop 6.0 and if you open your picture in MSPaint and select area and copy. Then you open PhotoShop 6.0 and click new and paste... Wahlaaa! Then edit to your hearts content!

I recommend:

for all your graphics needs.  It is a very powerful Photoshop-like program from the Unix world with a win32 port available.  Best of all, it is free.  Oh, and it opens BMP from Aces High screenshots with no problem.

 I use my trusty old Paint Shop Pro 5.01. Loads up those AH screen shots *as is* with no problem.
