Alas, another WW2 ace has passed away
« on: January 02, 2002, 09:33:00 PM »
The only Icelandic ace, Thorsteinn Elton Jonsson passed away on the 30th of december 2001, at the age of 80.
He flew Hurricanes, Spitfires and Mustangs for 111 and 65th sqn RAF in the period 1941 to 1945.
There are just so preciously few left.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
