Komet at High Altitude
« on: December 26, 2002, 06:00:24 PM »
We have flown the Komet on many missions in excess of 70,000 ft.  One guy took the bird over 100,000 ft. on a record attempt.

The curvature of the earth is visible, which is cool, but we all know that when over 40,000 ft the sky begins to take on a very deep blue and over 55,000 ft. you can see stars.  This gives way to darkness by the time you are near 70,000 ft.

It would be really nice to see these effects modeled into the high altitude structure of Aces High.

While on the wish list, let me once again ask (beg) for visible tail hooks on CV based aircraft.

ver. 1.11 is great.  keep up the good work.

I wont curse either, but I'll just say STFU, and go play Falcon4 if you want to look at the stars:D

Vega, it seem that there is a sim that somewhat models what you want. Its called IL-2 strumovick.

the farther up you go you stars start to appear. and the the sky get a bit darker and clearer.

The problem with flying at hight alt is that the AH flight model breaks down at 50k.  I call it the 50k Speedbump.  Watch what happens next time you go through 50k.  The plane bumps, sometimes hard enough to black you out, and the difference between TAS and IAS disappears and remains gone until you get below 50k again.

Above 50k, it's modelled as if you were at sea level.

So none of you guys ever try to see what a plane can do?  Just take it to 15k and find a furball.  Why bother modeling new planes?  Just design 1 plane with an altimeter that only goes to 20k.  What about speed, how about never to exceed 300mph so no one can run away from you in a furball.  With just 1 22cal single shot gun, that would prove who the best shot is.  (which wouldn't be me btw.)

OK so not everyone thinks of AH as a flight sim, maybe most like it simply for its quake like quality but if a few folks just like flying just for the sake of flying, why rag on them?

it was a temp

first the wing tips tore off, then the rudder, then the elevators, and then the plane hit the ground
