Newest lag strangeness....
« on: December 27, 2002, 10:54:34 AM »
Ok... never called anyone a "cheater" in AH.. I was definetely thinking along those lines tho the last few nights....

I was chasing a 51 who was twiting around on the deck trying to avoid getting shot by me and two other guys right on him.... 100-300 yard..  we were lighting him up like a Xmas tree... emptied myu entire ammo load into him as did the others... nothing... no parts came off, no smoke... nothing.   He crashed into the deck and I got the kill pretty quickly.

Last night...109 and P38... both moving normally and trying to avoid me shooting them but I put half my ammo load in each plane... at one point the 38 pulled up into a perfect deflection shot at 100 yard and I just layed into him with my FM2.... no damage and he crashed into the water and I got the kill right away.. The 109 kill was delayed by a minute or so.

Now... I have never seen lag before where the plane was flying normally and doing complex and smooth ACM..  Seems the only thing affected by the lag was the effect my bullets had on his AC.

Anyone else notice this lately?

I was noticing unacceptable amounts of this effect last night.

However, I can't say that there was no effect of the bullets on the AC because I would see them explode as much as 30 seconds after I would give up.  The bullets may have all caused damage - but not in what I would consider a "timely" manner.

Conversely, when in a furball I could see people taking excellent shots, amazed that I wasn't hit.  And then, on my way home with nothing around I would explode.  Some folks last night in our country were to the point that they were expecting to explode during their flight home.

It was very discouraging.

I've noticed this a couple of times.  I've also dropped in on a plane and lit him up (I knew I hit him) and no hit sprites appeared.  3 seconds later the plane blew up.

Something is a little quirky with the server.  None of it even remotely looks like cheating.

Only last night Lazs....me thinks there are problems downline somewhere in the internet.

I saw Toad shoot and kill an f6f only to watch it hover in space for some 1-2 minutes, fall to the ground in slow motion and Toad to be awarded the kill another 5 mins later.

It's like the 60's all over again!

I can speak from the other side of the spectrum. I've been in some laggy situations of late people would be hitting me i wouldn't get any damage but i couldn't damage anything either nothing would be responding and in every one of those cases i had to alt f4 out of the game and get back it to fix it.

In the last few days I have noticed increasing occurences of planes sitting motionless in midair for a few seconds at a time. very strange indeed. I have also suffered the "XXXX shot you down" thing when all alone several minutes after leaving a fight. I don't think it's a server issue, though... more likely to be a net bug.

I thought this was just me, but I was in a fight with someone, I think his name was Tokyouo. He was flying a N1K, and I swear, he pulled it perfectly vertical, and held it, without stalling, then brought it back and was closing on me!

I would equate this to the "Cobra" manuever used by Su-27 Pilots at airshows.

I've never seen anything like this in AH. It was either somthing weird, or the  best damn N1K pilot I've ever seen.

Is this maneauver possible?

Yesterday was the first time I could fly since the 23'rd because of net troubles and packet loss. I would think it has something to do with the holiday and the storms that had hit us on the West coast and are now migrating East.

Yup, last night was a beyotch...I personally discoed about 4 or 5 times before giving up (at about 9.45pm EST).  I figured it was the local ISP getting creamed by massive post-Christmas traffic.

Didn't the server have a massive lag hiccup late last night?  Maybe all this was a build up to that...

Everything was pretty "normal" after that

It's not just planes stopping in midair, it's both aircraft and vehicles freezing and instantly flipping to wierd attitudes. Last night I watched a B-17 take off from a field we were attacking (I was in a PzKpfw IV), and watched it lift off the ground facing about 120° away from me, then stop, flip nose-down with the top of the plane facing back along its previous line of flight, sit there for two seconds, then flip back as it warped away.

I've also seen the same thing happen with  GVs; I've gotten two kills of Tigers by having them suddenly flip nose-down so that I'm looking straight at their top deck and my lobbing an AP round into them.

The only thing I can think of is that there's something cockeyed about what the network smoothing code does to the attitude of an object.

I've had several experiences since the patch where my hits don't register (until later, I assume) and where hits on me take 1-2 minutes to register. It appears to be strictly in the gunnery end of things, since there is no warping in flight and the target is manuvering in real time as well. I was flying with a wingman at the time who noticed no abnormal flight warps etc. with my aircraft (or me with his) and he was landing hits that resulted in immediate kills where I got were a screeen full of hit sprites with no end results.

Want weird?

Last night i was hitting V26 in a form of B17s.  Dropped of the vh with a longish delay (.65 if i remember correctly.)  Got the VH and saw two tanks explode near the VH.
I was looking through my ball turret.

I am sure I killed both the tanks as there was no other friendly in the area except my escort who always stayed higher than me and didnt shoot at any ground targets.

I landed 30 mins later without a kill message for the tanks. ( but i did get a kill message for a 262 i shot down after the tank incident.)

weird

Put at least half an ammo load from a 109g2 with gondolas into a 51D last night, with no damage visable, then a couple of countrymen chased the guy around for another 30-45 seconds before he crashed. I got the kill about a min. later.

It didnt look like the standard alt-f4 disco, as he was maneuvering the whole time.
