Had my truck for less then a month when a woman on a cell phone drove into my like I wasnt there....Drove my bumper up (1500$)and gave me a bit of neck pain(2000$) My sons were both fine as thier heads were low on the seat.
Her minivan(she didnt even hit the breaks) had its engine right back into the firewall and the whole front end shmushed up.
Driving home from work talking on the cell phone..
The amazing thing to me was no squealing breakes no nothing..hit me going 50 klicks or so.

Guys, easy on the bashing of women on cell phones. They keep the body shop industry going. ;)

There is some hope, California will probably ban hand-held cellphone driving this year.

A suburb of Cleveland Ohio has made it illegal to use a cellphone while driving.  If the Police spot someone talking on a cellphone while driving, they are pulled over, issued a ticket and a court date.  Bad enough that they let women drive in the first place, let alone let them Yak their tulips off while attempting to drive.  Ba d situation there.  Of course....trying to apply lipstick, eyeliner, and talk on the cellphone while driving isn't hazardous .........or is it? LOL.

Glad men aren't into makeup.....ok........most men :D

"I now have a bumber sticker on the back of my Jeep. "HANG UP AND DRIVE!"

Most people I ride bikes with plaster their helmets with stickers that are quite imaginative. I only have three stickers..

"If you remember the 60's and 70's you weren't there"

"It it's too loud, you're too old"

"Perhaps you could see me better if that cell-phone was shoved up your ass"

Its amazing how some people drive these days

BTW LAZ, sorry about your nice elky,  - hope it's easily fixed. Doesn't your neck hurt, just a little:D

ouch lazs, that sucks.  sorry to hear it

but just be glad it wasnt a similiar soccer mom/ trophy wife driving one of those huge sport utilities (that will never see even a gravel road.)

It seems like their are thousands of these poofy haired morons here.  A minivan is nothing compared to a 9000 Ford Expedition or the like.  Bumper is the perfect height to just clear yours too.

Oh yeah, and good to hear no one was hurt.

well.... first off... I don't sue people unless there is absolutely no choice.  No one was hurt.   I will offer to settle without contacting any insurance company for the $275... the cost of a bumper and one bracket.  It really doesn't look bad but it was nice before.  Lucky for me that I like the retro look and the car sits a little high in the rear.. The bumpers matched up pretty well.

Her .... "car"?   Well.... I don't know.   Looked fine but.... there was some crumbs of foam looking toejam falling out the bottom and a crack in the cover that passes for a bumper.   My son is a mechanic and said it could cost a grand or two.

Naa... she didn't seem the least bit sorry.   She seemed..... inconvienenced by the whole thing.

Refreshing attitude there Lazs.  Everyone's insurance rates would be significantly lower if more people felt the same way.

Sure they are, they can talk on the phone AND rear end other drivers at the same time!  I would have thought that was obvious...

My biggest beef with drivers on cell phones is the total lack of coordination that will end up getting somebody killed.

We all know that driving looks easy, but in reality can be a difficult thing to do. I drive like I fly, with my head on a swivel. I'm always checking mirrors, looking over my shoulder, checking blind spots, all to make sure that I am clear on all sides. Hell I look behind me when I'm chainging lanes.

When you're talking on a cell phone or putting on makeup or in some cases even READING (!) while driving, you no longer drive like this. Your SA drops, and your coordination falls into the toilet. Most people I see driving with phones always look straight ahead, and drive with their knees so their other hand can make gestures.

All the accidents I've seen or all the incidents I've come close to having all come from drivers not paying attention to driving. They're more engrossed in the conversation than with driving their vehicle.

Drving without thinking leads to accidents. Cell phones can cost far more than insurence can pay for.

Hang up and DRIVE!

update... Called the woman and spoke to her husband... He was more than glad to settle for the price of a new bumper and bracket and not have the insurance companies or DMV involved at all.   They are sending me a check for $275.    Seems fair to me.   Only way it could be more fair is if she had to come over and help me pull off the old one and put on the new bumper.   I think that would be a lot better solution than having her write a check even.

but what do I know..

Here on Long Island talking on the cell phone and driving is banned (or at least should still be).  Tonight I almost got side swiped whens ome dumb squeak in a Toyota 4 Runner blabbing away on the cell phone a mile a minute.  NOT EVEN LOOKING TO THE SIDE TO NOTICE THAT I WAS THERE.  I press the brakes and let her scoot infront of me to avoid collision.  I then proceed in pulling up along side of her to get ahead of her so nothing further can happen.  She then opens the window, gives me the finger and screams "f*ck you."  I swear, some idiots shouldn't even be allowed to drive.  But wait, here's the real kicker.  I was driving near the county jail at the time and there were a few police cars around.  One drives RIGHT BY HER LEFT SIDE WHILE SHE'S ON THE PHONE looks in and doesn't do a thing.  The cops don't even want to enforce the law it seems.

today i was driving down a two way street with traffic crawling. suddenly the guy two cars ahead of me decides top stop in the middle of the lane and double park in front of his apartment bldg.

he gets out of the car, cell phone at ear yapping away and it turns out he's going to unload some things from the trunk. solid cars each way so no way to get around him- he gives a little wave like "oops, hehe" but leaves his car there with the flashers on, still on his phone, carrying things up while a block's worth of traffic stood at a standstill.

it's hard to put myself in that guy's head.
