Jane's F/A18

This is really interesting, as I had only really got into flightsims with Hornet Korea by Graphic Simulations, after Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat, and then SWOTL.

At the time the net code (4 players limit? I think) was impossibly smooth and considering the CPU’s and graphics cards at the time, it looked damn good as well. Not to mention it was loads of fun.

Aces High BBS fights are pale in comparison to the head to head real game challenges that made HK a real fun fighter pilot sim. That’s about all we had at the time to talk toejam and prove it. Makes you wonder how people discount current boxed sims that allow triple+  that number of players online for free and loads of AI to have fun fighting COOP, ala IL-2. Were spoiled.

Anyway, Jane’s never did a flightsim I liked that well, although they were always so far ahead in graphics. I forget why, whether it was CPU limits but I think it was WWII Fighters that just lacked much simulation ‘feel’ that sworn me off of them. And then Falcon 4.0 was released, and it was so deep in scope and detail, I wasted a year trying to make it actually work in multiplayer, being a beta tester, and even more time learning all the realistic systems. Ok, actually more trying to get it to work. I guess it’s good now, but that initial release killed it for me, and it can’t touch Jane’s F18’ graphics.

Well I got the Jane’s Naval Warfare pak for Christmas which had Jane’s F/A18. I installed it with no hopes of playing it, but for nostalgia, and then updated F/A 18 to the Team Super Hornet  High Resolution Mod. Wow. I also found lotsa training missions that work you through all the great weapons models it has, and it’s been a riot.

If you have the disk, reload it, add the High Res mod, and have fun til LO-MAC is released. Its weapons and avionics are a blast, realistic without being a chore, and tons of fun.

It's that good.

Thats EXACTLY what I thought.

Follow the link and make it look as good as IL-2 with the Hi-Res Mod. 1280 is the best.

If you dig it, the avionics are realistic, so I'll fwd you the missions that train you with voice overs.

LO-MAC will blow it away I think, but this is the F4.0 jet sim I always wanted. Plus you have 2 months to have fun.

Exactly 5 years ago, I was a big fan of Jane's Apache Longbow. Same thing, ultra realistic weapons and systems + good AI. Fun in Coop mode pilot/WSO.
Dat jugs bro.

Terror flieger since 1941.

Yeah, I loved Jane's Longbow 2 too.
It was really fun. I want to play Hardcore Combat Helicopter sim with the latest graphics and that great gameplay.

Helicopter sims are still dead...? :(

I can't find a copy of F/A-18 anywhere locally  :(

Have you revisited Falcon 4 since the Superpak?  F-14s and such are there now, more being developed

Same LePaul. I loved their previous game , F-15E was modelled. But at the time Hornet was released, my puter was much too small to handle it.

And now I can't find it anywhere :/
