Just saw Band Of Brothers
« on: December 30, 2002, 04:54:12 PM »
Got the "Band of brothers" DVD box for chrismas, so I invited 3 of my friends over today and we saw the whole series in one sitting. 10.5 hours of 1st class war movie non stop :D
(We consumed a considerable amount of Pizzas and Coca-Cola;))

There where not som many planes in it, but I didn`t expect that either. (A couple of P51, P47 and some B26`s and a LOT of C47`s :D)
But I just have to say it was an awesome movie, perhaps the best one I ever have seen, and I have seen alot of movies.

Just wanna say to all of you who has not seen the movie, go buy it, you wont regret it, ever!

You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

I bought it for my Father for his birthday... Mom rolled her eyes.  She called me the next week to tell me they both watched the series that week... every night after work.  I knew Dad would love it, but Mom's reaction took me by suprise.

I bought the set for myself the next paycheck and my wife and I watched it in 3 nights.  After the first episode, my wife said "you aren't going to watch any of these without me are you?"

Its simply the best WW2 series/movie/whatever I have ever seen.

I saw it on video, taped from HBO.

Now, I own the DVD version thanks to my wife and Christmas.

It is about as good as it gets.

I was stationed in Baumholder Germany during the 50th aniversery of the seige of Bastone and my unit (1/12 Infantry)  participated in the parade through Bastone with the actual vets of the 101st and 82nd Airborne.  These guys were treated like Royalty by all the residents.  I have rarely seen Americans treated so well in Europe. The people of that town really went all out for them.  Was your dad able to attend?  I hope so.  The event was extreamly moving for all who attended.  Even for the few German Vets that attended to honor their courage.

If females like this show/movie, it must be some sort of sappy emotional thing.

It has its moments. But rarely are men faced with the hardships that these Genuine Heroes faced.

Important to note that its not just a war movie but a 110% true story.
Liked the movie? READ the book. One of the few times a movie has followed the book so closely. the movie of course is compressed quite a bit  and some things were left out or compressed in timeframe due to the time constraints a movie presents. But I only counted one deviation, and that was how Garneir found out about his brother. In real life he read the letter while sitting on the can rather then during a movie.
A bit silly I know but all in all  very very accurate.
