Great  series, and aye, these guys faced terrible hardships. It's one of the best deipictions of WWII I've seen. The artillery attack in the woods in one of the epsiodes is the best damned war sequence I've ever seen, methinks - I felt like I was there. Gave me a whole new respect for artillery.

I just feel sorry for the 12-16 year old Germans who really didn't like Hitler that much, but who was forced to fight against insurmountable odds or be shot. That'd be even worse than what the Americans were facing. Of course, these guys were fighting for the wrong cause. Still, there had to be some people in the Werhmacht who really dinnae like Hitler very much but were forced to fight on. Anyone know of such examples, beyond the failed assassination attempt on hitler?

Oh, maybe I should start another thread...don't mean to hijack.

This is not a sappy emotional movie, not at all, but still in the end I had tears in my eyes, when I saw how hard it was for the real vets to talk about it, even after 50 years had gone...

As I said, have you not seen this series, then you should, I think it is the best movie I ever have seen.

It is kind like Saving private Ryan for 10 hours++ , only this is better, and a 100% true story.

Edit: The combat scenes was at least as realistic at those in private Ryan, but here it was way more of them.
I have a digital souroundset in my livingroom and a movie projector, so when the fighting was on I found my self duckin in the chair I was sitting in, amazing piece of filming.

You are referring to lt. Speirs, it's in part 7 of the series, after Bastogne, when lt. Dike (what's in a name?) freaks out. Then Speirs, a platoon leader in Dog Comapany takes over Easy company by orders of Capt. Winters. Don't know whether this was also in the book and if and how it happened in real life????

But don't forget, he also shot all those german POW's on D-day! ;)

I recieved the DVD set for Christmas and hadn't watched it yet, but I read the book in one sitting this year and was a very good book... Buit after reading the comments I am stoked!!!

That guy (if I recall correctly) went on to be the govenor of Spandau prison, thus he was Hess's jailor.

Excellent mini-series. Best I've seen. Watched and taped 'almost' all of them on HBO. Hoped to get the CDs for Christmas but didn't. Might buy them soon or buy them myself for my birthday in April. Do still have a gift certificate to Best Buy for $100...hmmmm.... :D

If you've never seen it you DON'T know what you are missing. Like I say I've seen them all a couple of times and I'm still going to buy the DVDs. It's that good.

I might be beating a dead horse, but I'll agree with everyone. BoB was an outstanding series. I just finished the book and it is outstanding also. I liked the part  at the end where they went to their reunion and you got to see the real guys. The part that really got to me was when they showed the cemetary at Normandy. It really choked me up. The first and last scenes in SPR also choked me up when Ryan was in the same cemetary.
