Techs PLEASE READ!!!
« on: December 30, 2002, 05:30:05 PM »
I installed DX9 not to long ago..didnt like the way it ran AH, so i uninstalled it and went back to 8.1

But my problem is that now, when running applications other than AH, my monitor will "flicker" every now and then.

I never had this problem before...and Im curious what it might be.
For instance, if u open a program, every now and then it will "flicker" then start program. I have no idea what this could be......? any ideas?

or am i just paying attention to my "crap" to much looking for flaws? LOL

idea.."recently installed 2nd HD" would that be it? maybe? even though the programs that do this arent coming from this 2nd drive.

I dont know what to do....LOL i give up hehehe

running win98se
xp 1600
256 ram
40 and 30 g hd
viewsonice 19" A90f+ at 90HZ (flickers slightly at higher rate)
CDRW

thanks

could you define "Flicker" a little more please.

Does the screen go black for second as if the monitor is have to adjust freqency rates/res (some monitors click when doing this). Or is it like a shimmer as if the degaus button has been pushed. or somthing else?

Also how many times does it do this? just the once or does it do it repeatedly before settling down?

Regards

Well I'm not a Tech but.

My Old Monitor used to do that if my game resolution was different from my desktop resolution.

It would click like you were turning it on and off, So i just decided to put everything to the same resolution and it didnt happen as often, Only when going from 2D to 3D applications.

Try setting the refresh rate to optimal as well that will put it auto mode and probably help minimize it.

Hope That Helps.

does sound like a refresh rate swap.

As you are using 98 you can force one rate for all res colour depths like u can with w2k & xp.

Go through each res starting at 640x480 and work up to your highest res, do it for all colour depths (16colours, 256, 16bit, 32 bit/full colour) each time set the refresh rate to be the same as your current desktop eg: if your desktop settings ate 1024x768x32bit 85hz set 640x480x16 colour/256colour/16bit/32bit to 85hz

Another thing to check is what monitor driver you are using, windows normaly defauts to "Plug & Play" monitor, but you can find the correct inf drivers for you monitor at its website. load this up and choose the right one, then as one of the above posts says, select optimal for all.
