Thankful I am not a Muslim
« on: December 31, 2002, 09:29:52 AM »
I understand the Islamic Extremist who killed the 3 Americans in Yemen said he did it to become closer to Allah.  I don't want to be part of a religion that would require me to kill people as part of my faith.

I guess even after living in the middle east I misunderstood Islam, and I misunderstood its followers.  So many clerics are teaching hate and violence as a required part of the dogma, it is obviously not the faith I once thought it was.

Do some research on the religion before posting.

There are folks who blow up clinics to be closer to Jesus.
And those who think bombing government buildings is required of every christian.
Not to mention the ones who thought being a good believer in Christ meant offering Jews the chance to be saved before slaughtering them.
It does not matter whether these are individual crackpots or huge groups.
Hate is not a religion, any more than your drug dealer is your friend.
If Islam is what these people think it is, it would have ceased to exist long ago.

Yes, I know a few things about Islam, I lived in Saudi Arabia for a couple years. Read from the Koran, participated in discussions with followers.

I also know that in Saudi, and in many other countries, Clerics are now teaching hate, urging killing, and who is standing up and opposing this?

Is the Saudi government? No.  They are the guardians of the most holy sites in Islam, Mecca and Medina, yet they are standing by allowing their religion to be used as a tool for hatred.  They are allowing those who envy, those who hate, to use their religion as an excuse to do evil.

Its easy to compare the wicked things done in the name of Christianity, but that does not excuse the evil in  the name of Islam.

Personally, I dont remember anyone saying they are going to kill someone "to be closer to Jesus".  It may have happened, I havent heard it.  Plus, comparing things done hundreds of years earlier dont compare in my view, as our society has advanced (or at least we hope so).

I strongly believe everyone has a right to worship, to believe as he pleases, we do not have the right to judge or force our views or ways of life on others.  To bad those who hold strong sway in Islam dont share that view.

The truth talks, and roadkill walks.

The one who is raising his hand against you is the one who is your enemy.

That isn't too hard, is it?

Not sure which religion you speak of... Wiccans have one general rule... Do not harm anyone. That's it... just that one...

Funny... they don't ask for tithing either. :)

Where were u at Dago?

Was in Jedda for 3 years  72 to 75

Then was in Tehran Iran 75 through 77  was a close run thing
got out just in time.

The Islamic religion is the only one (other than Wicca) that teaches tolerance of other religions. Its in the Koran.  But..........

It happens to be a matter of where you live more than actual study of the religion. Use to make us laugh like hell over watching a middle eastern muslim drink like a fish as soon as he left the islamic influence (area).

Just like I have seen the intolerance from a bible thumping cristain who has no more idea whats going on in the world than the loser telling him what is.

By far the majority of people I met over seas were just like us. A basicaly kind people who act like everyone at a rugby match. Individually good people -- rivals of our favorite team at other times.

Personally being raised as a teenager in a culture such as this has done one great thing -- I respect basic laws-- When you see crime as low as this (NO tolerance) you learn to look real hard at the one thing ALL people should do.  RESPONSIBILTY.........

Before we start trashing members of other religions because of a few radicals we need to clean up our own (so called) cristain hipocrites.

Im thankfull that I had the chance to study several different religions so I wouldnt get sucked in by the one a majority of people in this country practice (incorrectly to I might add).
