IL2 vs Ju87 toughness
« on: December 30, 2002, 11:02:59 AM »
It looks like the JU87 is the hands down winner of the toughest dive bomber in AH.

In an unscientific H2H battle the IL2 vs the Ju87 both planes were sent into the ack of a Large airbase. 4 out of 5 times the JU87 made it with little or no damage. In all 5 attempts by the IL2 the plane failed to make it through the ack without major damage.

We considered major damage to be complete failure (blown up), Horizontal stabilizer failure, wing or engine failure. The number one cause of death seems to be the tail falling off.

How many hits did each plane take? Was the Ju87 hit as much?

i've found that when i take my ju87 anywhere near enemy ack, my gear is the first to go, then as soon as ti's gone, my engine or wing is destroyed, and somehting else, and i'm dead b4 i've gotten anywhere near the enemy field

I've noticed...

...that the IL-2, even as heavily armored as it is, seems to be very weak when it comes to resisting ground fire.  They did suffer horrific losses in actual combat, but having actually seen the thick steel plates mounted to this beast, I'd have to say it gets blasted far too easily by flak.

The IL2 seems to take quite a few hits when i fly it.

No offense but since your test was uncontrolled and unsientific, you are just as far from a conclussion now as you were before your test .
