Why I Hate de Pizza Map?
« on: January 02, 2003, 05:22:44 PM »
Ok, HTC WILL NOT CANCEL DE PIZZA MAP  .  I accept.  But I want to put the cause just with a hope that this never happen again in future maps.

The pizza idea was very cool!  The canyons was fantastic!

BUT FOR GOD!  WHY WE HAVE SO BIG SECTORS?  WE WASTE A LOT OF TIME FLYING FROM AN AIRFIELD TO ANOTHER.   Thats tedious!  Please HTC, think carefully about that in future.:p

If you hate the pizza map like me, comes to make a corale!

Grab a GV and use the remote spawn points.  The importance of vehicle hangars and vehicle bases will become apparent the first time you spawn and see a downhill run into an enemy city.

Usually only have to squelch 2 people or so (always same ones) and channel 1 and then instead get to listen to the remainder of the people having fun.

Whels posted a GV mission last night in pizza, we had about 15 tanks and support vehicles - even endded up with some air support.  Captured 2 large airbases and everyone had plenty of kills.  Was sight to behold (this image shot from middle of group - similar picture in every view from my supply M3).

Yeah, I was in a Panzer toting AP shells while my squaddie was one of the 7(!) Tigers in that first mission.  I have to say that was one of the funnest missions I've ever done.  The real backbone of that mission was the supply vehicles and aerial spotters that kept us armoured boys fed and informed.  I think next time around I'm going to drive a supply vehicle - the linchpin of the operation.

I'm unfamiliar with this. Please explain. I'd like to know more.

Thanks

Gofaster!

You tried and tried and tried to sneak that M3 to our Knit town last night at A11 (i think...northern most base).  You were quite the challenge.  I was in a Yak lining up on you and then you'd do all kinds of road-rage driving that had me overshooting or, planting myself into a tree  :)

I had a ball last night, you guys had some amazing Osty/AAA coverage at times that was suicidal to get through to nail the M3

It was A12 on the Pizza Map and we were trying to get it back before the town came back up.  I figured if I got close enough, I could open the doors and sneak a few past the goalies.  :)

If you thought that was fun, you should've been there when we ran our tanks to it and captured it the first time!  It was quite the armour battle.  In our exuberance, we kinda killed all the barracks in the assault, so we weren't able to capture the adjoining port, which then came back to haunt us when that fleet showed up on the doorstep with a cloud of Hellcats and Corsairs and snatched A12 right back!

The failed assault to retake A12 then led to the feverish defense of A2 from which we were launching our gv attacks on A12.  I got 6 kills in a Tiger up on "Bloody Ridge" to the east of A2, trying to defend against attacks from two (2!) different spawn points.  I think an Ostwind or two slipped past me and a couple of other tanks, and at least 2 Panzers got by, but they were mopped up by the heavy fighters upping from the airfield.  If it hadn't been for my comrades dropping vehicle supplies to us tankers up on the ridge, the battle would've been lost after the first wave of attacks.

Why is a man who feels that flying is tedious, flying an aircraft simulator?

You can go to a vehicle hangar, select a ground vehicle, and click on one of the tic-tac-toe squares in the lower corner of the Clipboard.  The H square will launch you at your own field, but the other squares will launch you near another base.

If you want to know which tic-tac-toe square will put you at which base, you'll need to go to the Tower, bring up the Clipboard so you can see the map, and click on the Z emblem and the tank logo and you'll see yellow arrows on the map (pink arrows are for the PT boats).  The end of the arrows indicates the launching point (spawn point) for the ground vehicles.

Some airfields will launch ground vehicles at other airfields, and some vehicle hangar fields will launch you near airfields, too.  For the AKDesert map, the vehicle hangars take on a new meaning because it can be easier to capture an enemy airfield using ground vehicles than if you were bombing in airplanes and trying to fly a goon into the city.  Unlike some of the other Aces High maps where an airfield might have only 1 other field spawning to it, in AKDesert there may be 2 or 3 (or more) airfields spawning to your airfield.  Some vehicle hangars will spawn to all of the surrounding airfields! And in some instances, your transit time is reduced because you'll have a downhill run towards the city and can capture it quickly.

This only works if you're a Rook.  If you're on another team and use it to attack a Rook base, then using a ground vehicle to attack an airbase will cause your computer to erase its own harddrive, transmit your credit history to thieves, send emails to all of your friends telling them that you have a secret fascination with sheep, and make you go blind.

Whew, I happen to be Rook! But I'm already blind from my other habit, so I'm not worried 'bout that;)

Exactly! That's what makes it suck so bad! Great for "aces low" but rotten for Aces High. This  is Aces High, right? The more it leans to ground action the worse it is.

This comment has nothing to do with the fact that I loath gv's.

I can't kill a ground vehicle from the air and so I used to loathe GVs too, until I learned how to zoom the targeting scope in and out.  Now its a whole new game for me.

Been there and done that. After the new wore off they became semi-interesting targets. Now, after several months lay-off and (I suspect) hardening of gv's against bombs and rockets they're a waste of time as far as I'm concerned.
