Leutenants Hakulinen and Remes, belonging to a Curtiss hawk squadron  operation from Nurmoila airfiels, were ordered to reconnoiter enemy  airbase south of river Syväri. They flew high enough to leave  condensation trails, so when they arrived over the enemy field they got  an idea. Leutenants decided to divide to each side of the field and then  return straight over it.
The enemy air defences opened fire at them and most coveniently  decorated the trails with "cotton balls". Hakulinen smiled contentedly:  "The result was perfect". The female members communication corps  wonderer the laughter leutenants caused while telling their story in  canteen. The picture was not forgot in the sky of Syväri, but the story  travelled to Germany, spread among the Allied and found it"s way even  into Japan.
After the was Hakulinen was empoyed as engineer for Enzo Gutzeit. A  trade mission from Japan arrived to purchase a papermill from the  company. Two members of the mission were former aces, and obviously they  knew the story of Hakulinen and two-mile-ellipse.
In the course of the  evening, while enjoing sauna and refreshments, the japanese started to  tell war memories. Hakulinen mentioned that he too had been a fighter  pilot in the war. The japanese bursted into laughter, and when Hakulinen  wondered why, the answer was: "The biggest in the world!".
