Rather than restrict airplane availability to control suicide attacks, restrict ordinance availability.  If a player dies within (some number of) seconds after dropping bombs, he cannot load more bombs for (some number of) hours.

This would at least eliminate the die-and-repeat horde swarms marching across the map.

Spoken like someone who's never compressed a P-38 with 1,000 pounders strapped to the wings.

Restricting ordinance availability is a good idea, but it should be done by perking the bigger bombs.  Put a cost to those bombs and either (a) lighter ordinance will be carried or (b) accuracy will improve because only the experienced players will have the perk points to blow on dropping a vehicle hangar or aircraft carrier.  It'll also be worth the trouble of bringing unspent bombs back to the base instead of dropping them indiscriminately on ammo dumps and fuel depots.

Just started flyin the Jug a bit, have had 3 succesful NON-SUICIDE drops on CV. 3 bombs & full rockets. 3 of 4 attempts I lived through. I have JUST started flying this plane. No need for suicide, why waste those HUGE guns? Look within yerself, seek skill.

P.S. I didnt stick around to see if ordinance hit (anti-aircraft very heavy), but the kills from dropping them assured me they hit. And when my squaddies behind me hit after me..... no mo boat. They lived too    ;)

Not a whine guys. The night was really a bunch of fun. The rooks were hitting bishland pretty hard and still the furball at 1 was in a rage. No one was answering the call to help against knights so the few that were over there were getting kills left and right against dweebs and lemmings. The cv guns were full so there were three of us on cap. Before this hoard of p38s showed up I was in the air and dropped onto a suicidal p47 that was too shallow to do anything but lob his bomb in the direction of the cv but my own acked killed me with one ping. You dont see that anywhere but at the cv so before minus whines that he cant get his ju88 past me or paint whines about people playing the game and not furballing I want to point out that defending the cv is not all a milkrun. Those ju88s after the cv usually have a defending fighter or two coming after anyone that attacks them. Turning your back on a fast plane or even a co-e plane like a n1k takes a lot of nerve and when your finished you are lower then everyone.

Wow paint you still manage to whine even when someone salutes your countries teamwork. Go back and check the ranks over the months past and you will see that nothing about how I play ah has changed. If you dont like it tough.

Yeah anton I managed a drop on their cruiser yesterday and killed three f6fs on egress with the 5" guns manned and everything firing. I guess they give six calls about as regularly as we do.

Sorry zip I missed that call. I squelch 1 everytime I see rauml chatting or after about one minute of politics whichever comes first. Reread the post. I still cant believe knights get this level of cooperation.

GPreddy,

As of late, this has been the exception, not the rule with the Knights.

Knights, like Rooks and Bish, can get hung up on "furball island" or A44 on Mindano too.

hmm  I quess I do whine too much :(

Did anyone actually try to suicide dive in on a CV? It's nearly impossible except with very tough planes. Usually the CV aa blows attacking aircraft to pieces before they have a chance to hit the deck (aka suicide).

So it isn't suicide (even if someone wanted to) but just allowing someone else to kill.

I think dive-bombing CVs tend to be suicide runs because its hard to drop accurately, avoid the AAA and enemy CAP, Then RTB without dying.

Id guess most guys would like to drop and live to RTB, But the AAA is very severe at a Task Group.

Perhaps if the AAA wasnt so concentrated, and players had to man the AAA to defend a CV,  Folks might be inclinded to drop with better of hope of survival.

I think AI Defense is too good, Thus the feeling you need to risk getting extremely low and making sure your drop counts.

How many times has someone made a bomb drop, only to lose a control surface and be unable to pullout and auger in near the ship.  This appears to be a suicide attack, but probably that pilot would prefer to live.

Just my Opinion,  But if the AI v Manned Guns were tweaked, it might change the entire situation.

I wonder if more effective short-range ack would help.  The long-range ack is already more deadly than anything seen even in modern warfare (I know because I do this for a living...  radar guided heavy ack over Iraq has been shooting at us for a decade with no kills) but the short range ack in AH seems like it might not be as deadly as it could be.  As in RL, maybe the rule ought to be that if you keep your distance, you've got a chance but if you buzz the carrier or other defended location, you're toast.  That's how it worked in WWII and how it works today in modern air combat, so I'm not sure what's causing the reality malfunction in AH...
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
