Ahh I needed something to get your attention :D

Okay over the weeks there has been numerous posts about the gang bangs, the vulch fest, the hoard mentality, the suicide kings, the jabo freaks et al.

So looking at most of the posts it seems everyone misses the AH good old days where it was all bout the air combat and not about that land grab that seems to foster many of the attributes that most of us dislike about the MA these days.

I’m going to bring up AW (I know yawn-its dead, it’s time has gone) but back when I loved AW it had maps where only a few Neutral bases could be captured and MOST bases could be vulched/destroyed but not captured.  IMHO those maps were great because emphasis was placed on air combat, yet it provided mission/strat people with neutral base objectives or main field suppression objectives.  The map did not allow the country with the fewest members to be constantly ganged into a corner because since most bases could not be captured you could “advance” only so far.  It usually meant that after a while the 2 most dominant nations would turn on each other fighting at front-line fields thus giving a chance for the weakest side to recover and organize.

I guess what I’m wondering is do most of you like the current reset game play these maps offer or would the community be open to static maps that did not allow a complete country reset to occur? Maps could be rotated in every 48-72 hours to keep things fresh and maybe “reset” perks could be awarded to the nation that held the most Neutral bases for the longest during that map? !?

I just know that many old AW vets will tell you that those were some of the best times of their lives and when AW moved towards making most fields capturable most people had less fun because the arena turned away from air-combat to land grab.

Thoughts?

I believe the issue that caused the change in AW was related to bringing too many people too close together when the community grew much larger. A very good thing from a gameplay perspective, but bad from a state of the technology standpoint. I agree, that was a really functional model for a wide variety of gameplay styles.

I spent my last year and a half in the AW3 Fightertown arena. The land grab in the Euro and Pac arenas was just about the same as here but on a much smaller scale, but the effect on true air combat was just about the same as here.

That was a time when I wanted to learn ACM and fighting MOSTLY 1v1's in Fightertown realy helped flatten the learning curve.

Now it seams that, in the MA, emphasis has gone from air to air battles of ACM whit to the destruction of your opponents ability to challenge you in the air....a sad state of affairs indeed  :/
