Unflyable conditions in the Main
« on: January 06, 2002, 08:42:00 PM »
460 + folks flying.. Host chart in net status looked like the Mt. St. Helens seismograph.

Freeze-frame warping, rubber bullits, horrenous server lag... this is NOT the high quality game play I've become used to flying with in here... it's like a time warp back to the bad old days of the WB overpopulated servers.

HiTech...can something be done about this? It's happening FAR too frequently lately... particularly on weekend evenings.

Thanks for listening...

While I am still having fun, here's food for thought:

I made over 100 kills in one week at the end of December.

I cannot kill 5 people a night now. The environment seems the same, the planes are the same, but somehow when I hit I don't kill. It's like golf, I guess, it comes and goes.

Well ... wouldnt a solution (at least temporary) be for a big chunk (say 100 or so) of us to head to the CT?  That would take a lot of pressure off the MA and I've found the CT #'s GROW like mad when there is a good chunk of pilots in there.

*shrug*  I hear ya tho Hang, I logged into MA tonight with 467 players and my netstat was goin' nutts, about a 5 second text lag ... I didnt even try to play  :(

whelp.. I'd suggest that if the server goes nuts with numbers over 300.. cap the population there. If it's 200 that makes it nutts.. then make it 200. Any surplus trying to log on would be shunted to the CT. Or another new 'Main Arena' server.

It's certain that 467 is waaaay too many for the one MA server.. or so it would seem.  :(

Flew the CT for awile.. but ruski and lw stuff just ain't my bag.. and not what I'm paying for.

Seems Mindinao registered an 8.1 on the Richter Scale according to my host que.  Spikes were endless and all the way to the top of graph.

It's nice to have the participants.  Means shortly another MA will soon be needed, or more participants in the CT.

Dang, so its not just me.  I have Verizon DSL and it seems slow tonight, but wasnt the past few days.  But, Main is still massively warpy here.  Even tried the old dialup, got a nice 53k connect and browsed around everywhere else.  Same in the Main...unplayable warp-age everywhere  :(

Well, dunno about you guys but for me, this has been somewhat the norm for the better part of a month.  Frankly, Im a little burnt out about it.  Plus the super goons reversing whatever buffs drop on...well...I suppose its time for a break.

Guess I'll break the seal on that IL2 box I got for Christmas.  And if that's too much for my system, I've still got Falcon4 and Worms2   :D

Hope this stuff is remedied soon.  I miss my evening fix of Aces High.

At 9:00 pm eastern it was atrocious.. 460+ bodies. Tried again 10:30.. about 400 on.. still choppy. Once again; after Midnight.. 300 on.. It was playable. Got some stick time, was choppy in populated sectors but flyable in less traveled sectors.

I'm sure HTC's workin on this, we'll prolly see an adjustment of resources or somethin shortly.

also one where i dont think i damaged it at all then it blows up! <--- i like that one though

freeze ups also and a disco mesg the second i sign on.

love seeing all the new people aboard and will love it more when the server can take it.

Hi Folks,
It's been horrible for everyone and HTC knows it. I spoke to HiTech onthe phone about a couple weeks ago when he was troubleshooting AHvoice with me. They are working hard to find a solution. It's not the server it's bad routing through the TPL backbone. It's not easy to find an ISP that has both sufficient bandwidth and stable symetrical routing. They are searching for an ISP upstream from Saavis,Skuzzy's backbone, because the vast majority of people had good connects through that backbone. As I said, it's not easy or cheap. I know it doesn't make it any easier to deal with the crap in the meantime but trust that HT knows that stable connects are key to their ongoing success. Their record is beyond reproach and we all know that...I hope.  ;) I find that relogging as many as 10 times to get a flat host queue helps somewhat. Patience is our only weapon for now.

Heh makes me feel lucky I fly at euro-hours with only 100-200 players online.

Still I suffer from network related problems which are mostly due to my own isp. Sometimes chat lag is 30 seconds or more and it breaks me nerves.
