Buffs and 30mm
« on: January 13, 2003, 07:51:55 AM »
Is it just me or lately have buffs been made tougher, I made a pass on a B17 formation in my 163 hit lead buff 10 times including 3 concentrated on his no2 engine and behind it. He didnt even start to smoke. Same thing happened next sortie against a b-17 7 hits in the wing and tail and he flew merrily along. 3rd time lat night was even more annoying dove in on lanc in 163 hit his lead with 10 hits again in the belly and his drone twice in bombbay. It had to take a spraying la7 flying up its arse to finish the lead buff . While the drone now dove for the HQ and its ack. Having hit him knowing I'll get the proxy I fly with him into the HQ ack at 4k above it and he flew merrily through it with only a fuel leak. Fed up I turned for home waited til I was 5k out before I start to manuever when pop back in tower, Dweeb shot you down.

Today same story, light buffs up to hell and gone with cannon, pop off goes my wing, Its not rubber bullets on my end as I kill fighters with very few shots. Including last night I killed a fresh upped spit with 2x50cal bullets in his tail.

You might have had a bit of lag, from a bombers POV we seem to be taken down with ease especially from marauding Me163's.

Again last night in 163, Fighters pop with one hit or lose a wing. B-17 takes 20 shots most in its left wing before finally blowing up. Including a wingtip hit which always used to be a kill in my experiance.

I concur poohs experience with the ME163...seems like the 30mm has the impact of .50 cal.

odd duedel or maik and i had almost this same conversation

it seemed to me the different planes 30 mm had different power
(mostly 163 was weak)

hopeing to come up with a test for this next ( beat the knits down to boost score nite).

they seem the same for me.  buffs have always been able to survive some 37mm from ostwinds for example, and 37mm alot bigger shell.

I've ben killing bombers in a Tiffy recently and all I can say is "Why do these people fly these things" then as I land my battle damaged plane and relaunch I'm reminded of why...25% fuel...arrrrggggg.

Realy, bombers are too easy to kill if attacked correctly...IMO and airfield strat targets are too easily destroyed...again IMO.

I think it must be a lag issue..have found the 163 to be a monster against buffs.
