I logged into the Main Arena last night.

606 fine folks were up!!! I was thinking that has
to be a new record!!!

Yes,there were a few lags and one guy disappeared but he did reappear a few seconds later (not sure how that happens as it didn't act like a warp). But think about it! HTC and his group have a flight sim that can handle these numbers.

Well done!
:)

When you coming back?  I want that 2/3 + you to shoot at.

You had mentioned it in a post somewhere else.. I forget which one.

And I was actually just passing thru to LaCrosse for a  night to visit a brother of mine.  Sheesh, 600 miles in 24 hours wasnt a smart idea. :)

I don't think AW could have handled anywhere near
that number. Besides just sticking 200 up in an arena does not make a great sim when the total number of icons you can see is 13. That was it for
AW. This meant if you got into a furball and there were 15 enemy planes there, you had two unaccounted for. As in, "what shot me down? There was no one there?" Another no-seeum death.

<< And I need to join a BIG "l337 "squad.  This lone wolfing vs 48 incoming cons is getting to be for the birds ;)
Oed>>

Think of it as a great challenge without the rewards :). A couple of days ago I surrounded at least 20 enemy planes. Unfortunately for them, they were higher. Instead of hogging all the fun,
I gathered them all up and took them over to some friends. Along the way I picked up another 10 or so. Again they were higher and forced to tag along. The whole procession followed me to my field. There the enemy was joined by comrades capping our field. Somehow, and it was pure luck,
I managed to "exit stage right" and had just enough gas to land at another field. BTW, that ain't my kinda luck so the Gawd's of AH were smiling on me that night.

Now I gotta ask you. Where else can you get so much heartpound'n fun all wrapped up into one sortie?

And my memory is failing me but the AW server but I do recall it was a test server and not a production or regular arena setup. It lasted one summer many moons ago. Warpy as all hell and most of the enemy cons you never saw (con limits?).  Anyway.....

Oed

I think AW was in a continious beta state throughout its lifetime. I remember doing different internal beta's all the time in AW. Both on the MAC and PC side of the house. IMHO it died because it never changed with the times. Old code for an old game. I think the one thing that kept it going was the people in there. Since it was a smaller group there was more comradere and that made the game.

I think AH will be even better. Even though the group is much larger, as time goes by the community will build to an even bigger and better one than was seen in AW. Again, it's gonna take time.

As far as AH? New versions all the time. New planes, new terrains, etc. What more can one ask for?

Not a record:

But it is becoming more common. Someone said in the MA that it hit 700 last night.

WOW. Thanks, AKIron. I guess it's when you get in.
Saw the thread and 636? And if it hit 700 last night I think they're gonna have to start working on a bigger arena. :)

I wonder how "big" a map can be in AH. I mean in AW a sector was 12x12 miles. Here its basically doubled. I'm curious as to the limits for map making. Can a sector be 36x36 or 100x100 and is there a limit to the actual size of the arena?
Does size affect FR? Or the number of folks up?
In some arena's you fly a few sectors to an "ocean" off the map. Is that area mapable also?

Opps, sorry been around a year, quietly reading and flying. I'm getting way to wordy and I appologize...

Too wordy? Nah. :)

As it stands now the AKDesert map is as large a map as can be built. The user base would need to grow considerably before we need a larger map than that.
