The function of the HQ and its effects on the dar have frustrated me for a long time.  Why should damaging a HeadQuarters make a radar on a CV stop functioning?  With the 512 maps it gets silly to have no information across the entire map.

With this in mind, I cobbled together the following idea based on the HQ being a gatherer and disseminator of information.

The addition of Sector controllers.

Premises:
1.  The pilot (clipboard) is in contact with: HQ,  the sector launched from and the field launched from.
2.  HQ receives information from Sectors.
3.  Sectors receive information from fields under its control.
4.  Sectors and HQ function the same with regard to damage and dot/bar display.
5.  The TG's function as a field and a Sector

If Field A1a’s radar set is destroyed - Local (field set range) dot information is lost.  HQ and Sector provide bar information. (same as we have now).  All other operating sets provide information.

If Sector 1 is destroyed -  Launch field set still displays dot info and remainder of sector is dark.  Sectors 2 and 3 are still functioning and sending info to HQ, therefore they will still display as normal.

If HQ Destroyed -  Field A1a and Sector 1 will still be displayed as normal, but all of Sector 2 and 3 will be dark.

Mix and match for a much larger variety.

ooh and a pretty picture…

Nice post.

It could be implemented on the 256 maps by eliminating the sector section, and just going by field.  So if the HQ is destroyed, you can only see what the field you took off from can see.

On AKDesert, and any future zoned maps, the zone could act as the sector.  Either the zone base itself, or maybe a mini-HQ near it.

The sector station would be a whole new strat target.

...might even be fun to capture an enemy one and get their radar intel for like 2 min.

a teensy bit like my very poorly worded idea HERE ... take the update thingy and make it base specific. if HQ dead then you only get DAR updates for the 1-2 sectors around the base you took off from. (each base having it's own DAR that can be killed .. just not as easily as it is now... say 3000lbs or the 2 targets i mentioned for 1500lbs each)

oh well my 2˘
I don't know what to put here yet.

Not it’s not. But Fatty’s been kinda busy, what with dieing and all, so a few things are falling through the cracks. Don't worry though, it's nothing a few weeks in the “re-education camp” won’t fix.
