Cougar Help - I'm Desparate
« on: January 14, 2003, 07:56:03 AM »
I've been posting to Frugals Cougar board but thought someone in our Aces High Community could help me out..

I was running HOTAS 1.04 with 1.07 firmware, totally acceptable. Tried loading 2.02 and ran into the inf Data IN & OUT problems. I removed everything and got back to running after an install off the CD and update to 1.04 and 1.07 firmware.

I've since installed the SP1 to my Windows Home edition.

With the 2.03 being released and addressing the inf problem I figured "why not"..... Now I'm in deep doo-doo. I had the inf problems, tried everything posted about resolveing the inf/pnf issues, but now can not even reload off the CD in ver 1.0!!! I also followed instructions/recommendations to try plugging in Cougar while holding trigger to clear firmware, great, now I have a $400 can no-feature joystick because I can't load anything into it because HOTAS Control Panel can'y find the stick because Dat IN OUT drivers are not installed.

Any idea's out there, or similar problem that got resolved? I'd really hate to look at formatting and spending the weekend reinstalling everything.....

Thanks a millions..................

Have you tried removing the .inf files left over from the last version as detailed in this post at Cougar World?

And how Revvin. I found the oem's, there where even Cougar OEM pnf files I found by opening them and reading what they were for. I have a gut feel, as well as Red Dog that it may be an SP1 issue, I'm trying that tonight. If it is Red Dog will be notifying Guillimont.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for us Revvin it is greatly appreciated. The first question my Dad SE asked was, did you ask Revvin? Kind of funny, shoe is on the other foot now, usually it's pop calling me, I upgraded my video (or whatever) drivers now this doesn't work, I'm surprized I haven't seen the "way to go 'Big Dummy'" P.S. what even makes it funnier is this past Friday I turned 47, I bet from the email you thought I was about 12... :D

Thanks again Revving, and anyone else who may help.

Waaaaa WHooooooooooooo.....

Got my Cougar HOTAS back and running smooth as ever.

It appears it was the XP SP1 & SP2 causing my grief. I Backed-up everything onto CD (games etcetera) then formatted and reinstalled XP. Everything loaded (Cougar) smooth as silk!!

Thanks to all who tried to help, now, check six....... hehe

The hot patches that have come out after SP1 are identified within their identification as SP2, there was not one big upgrade like SP1, they are poted one by one......

Yup SP1 messed up my Cougar too, sorry for the delay in replying I've been working away from home for two days and meant to tell you about it before I left. I put SP1 full install on my system with Cougar drivers already installed and it stopepd the Cougar working. I re-installed XP and put the express SP1 install on and then the Cougar drivers and everything worked fine. I posted about this on Cougar World but nobody seemed to take it seriously.
