We're back to Ogre's terrain and, while I like it, I must say that its ostwind-friendliness does get old, especially if you're the country stuck in the SE corner (why SE corner? Because attacking forces from the canyons (Read ostwinds) meet the VHs on the way to the field. It's much easier to kill the VH and harass the field if your attack path brings you into range of the VH 5 minutes earlier than later)).
In short, the arenas are a little stale; I imagine HTC is planning on doing something about this, but they're waiting for 1.05 (heck, probly a month and a half ago they thought they'd have 1.05 and hence a new map by now).
While we're waiting, I'll propose a solution: HTC throws out a hastily-adapted map for 1.05, and announces a new terrain competition. Every month, players can make submissions that meet certain minimum criteria, such as:
At least 8 Airfields per country (at least 1 large and 2 medium)
At least 8 Vfields per country
Full strat targets
Textures must be HTC's own, those of the contestant(s), or those in the public domain (no copyrighted EAW stuff).
--
all those who submit a terrain agree that if selected, their submissions will be evaluated for bugs, which must be fixed within a week. The winner further agrees that HTC holds a non-exclusive copyright to the terrain, textures and any objects.
We could have an exhibition week where the contestants make their terrains available for download and H2H evaluation.
The winning map is then checked by volunteers (such as myself) for errors before it is submitted to HTC for the imprimatur.
