Kill Shooter Yes or No
« on: January 15, 2003, 09:32:53 PM »
I really don't like the killshooter in this game and neither do alot of other people I know.  Too many times I hear some one complain that just as they were about to fire on a target when some dweeb with no situational awareness cuts right in front of them and they shoot them selves down. And they usually have multiple killls.  You never saw this in Air Worrior.  I liked the way Air Worrior was set up.  The first time you fire on a friendly target, a message pops up and says "you just fired on a friendly target". If you fire on second friendly target within a 24 hour period, another pop up message appears saying something to the effect "You just fired on a friendly target for the second time. You are prohibited from carrying ammo for 24 hours".  So for the next 24 hours you have a Goon driver.  The other option is to turn the kill shooter off completly.  Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?
Yes I know I suck, other wise youuuuu would be dead so stop bragging.

Yes.

It promotes a more realistic combat environment because it gives a reason not to fire through friendlies.

Without killshooter myself, and many others, would not maintain a subscription.

The people who KSed themselves also had no SA.  In the three years I've been a subscriber I've KSed myself twice, and both of those were from hitting the friendly I was trying to clear a bandit off of.

I am amazed at how people overlook this obvious and huge flaw of simply making friendlies immune to friendly fire.

Definitly yes.
Killshooter is friendly fire that cannot be exploited to ruin others games, and really is the ideal solution for it.

I don't like the implementation of kill shooter, and wish that it would be less lethal than it is now.  But the basic idea is sound.  Check your fire.

The dweeb in this case is the guy behind.  If you're chasing someone part of your SA should be where all the friendlies are in front of you so you're not shooting them in the back of the head.

I've shot myself down a couple times; usually in vulch fests.  It may be frustrating, but you learn trigger control pretty quick.

Ok, I bombed myself once, too.  Had no idea there was a friendly GV down there.

Now, if you want to talk about issues, let's (for a moment) discuss twenty plane conga lines...

Killshooter Yes.

I have almost 1700 hours playing this game in almost 2 years.  I would guess I've killshootered myself 2 maybe 3 times.   Responsible for getting a fellow Rook killshootered? Maybe 3 or 4 times....not a problem...

Meddog, you said

If some dweeb cuts in front of them then maybe their SA is slightly lacking.

Meddog, you also said

So using your first example,  You are firing on your target and said "dweeb" pulls up and into your line of fire and you shoot a friendly,  so now YOU get penalized with no ammo for 24 hours,  sounds like fun.

Killshooter has been discussed before and from what I've seen and heard from others this is the best system.   Search the BBS for Killshooter and Kill Shoot,  I found little over 1300 threads where this has been discussed or brought up.

I remember not to long ago where there was a problem with guys shooting their own country's troops so their own squad would get the base capture and some people accidently fragging their troops on base capture.   Hitech fixed that problem.   And if we didnt have killshooter at all imagine the kaos.
You'd have guys shooting you down so they can get the kill.

Kill Shooter is fine

The person who does die a lot because of killshooter is definitely doing something wrong!

Started to play AH around the year 2000 and since then I died because of KS about 5 times.... Always my fault and I'm aware of it...

So KS as it is in MA is absolutely fine with me.

killshooter rocks .... and i've proably felt it's bite more than most of you.... lost a 262 to kilshooter.... it was all kappa's fault tho!:D
(he was 262 that got in my line of fire) ... but in the end it was my fault .. let my wingman SA down to fixate on target .... bet most of you who squeak about kilshooter do that... i do it sometimes, but not when i'm playing well. If i start getting fixated in sorties .. when i find myself in tower i say myself....look around you handsomehunk, one kill ain't worth the trouble of flying out there agin.

This horse (Killshooter) has been beaten so badly that it is unrecognizable.

KILLSHOOTER YES !!!

Frustrating when it happens, but in the long run it is the right way to do it.

Why this topic keeps being brought up is beyond me. It is one of the most prolific topics on this BBS, as MajTom has pointed out, and HiTech has not changed it and I would assume that HiTech will NEVER change it no matter how many times it is brought up.

Maybe we can just turn Killshooter off for Meddog.  I wonder how long it will take for him to change his mind though because you know those friendly spits and LA7s behind him in the conga-line are just going to shoot him down to get him out of their way so they can get the con.

I don't think I've ever weighed in on the Killshooter topic, so here's my kick for the dead horse.

I like the kill-shooter.  But I'm a phan-boi, so what do I know?

You'd rather the dweeb cutting in front of you turn you into a goon pilot for 24 hours rather than simply killing you?

From the point of view of the "dweeb", sometimes when I'm executing a perfect high G lead turn and fixing to pull in at d150 behind my mark I notice the tracers from the guy at d800 spraying and paraying and divert so as not to kill shooter him and sometimes I don't. SA goes both ways and often the guy "cutting in front" had a better angle on the target from the get-go.

Keep killshooter.
