Something new to me:
« on: January 16, 2003, 01:30:08 PM »
After being apart of the MA rat~race for a year now I am kinda bored with the Building battleing and Furballing.. So I stepped away for a few days "week" and spent some time in the CT,
The terrains in the CT and plane sets have been excellent lately, whomever is putting them togethor has done a great job!!
But I also have never been in a special event due to hearing everyone complain about the role they recieved after signing up and some favortism towards certain players over newbies, But...
while in the CT someone text messaged about the Midway snapshot that evening and it perked my interest.. I showed up late like always :) And wasn't sure what to do but played along until I caught on to what was happening and Had an absolute blast!!! Hazed and Jordi and everyone else involved did a great job setting it up and I recommend that anyone who hasn't flown a snapshot or the other events try it out you won't be let down from what I have seen!!!
Imagine many groups of people working togethor to complete a task?!...... Hard isn't it?! :)
Later....

TODs are excellent, and so are the full-scale scenarios.  I do CTs when I get tired of the all-available MA and want to do some mid-war stuff.

The Fin-Rus map, skins, and planes were excellent.  Could've used a better ground vehicle set-up, but that comes from having such a small library of ground vehicles.

MA is the place to sharpen your skills to fly in TOD, snapshots, and special events.  CT is alot of fun also, and the kills you get in there are hard earned since the planeset is usually close.
If it wasn't for the things mentioned above, I think AH would become pretty boring.  The people who organize these events do a great job.

"But I also have never been in a special event due to hearing everyone complain about the role they recieved after signing up and some favortism towards certain players over newbies, But... "

It's true that some people complain about the roles they get in scenarios. However, check who it's is that's doing the complaining, and I'll think you'll draw your own conclusions.

I can also assure you absolutly no preference is shown to anyone during registration for events.

The only situation where preferences are allowed is with resåect to leadership roles. The side CO's have a free hand to pick thier squadron leaders from the list of registered entrants, and quite honestly I believe that's the way it should be.

The acid test is this: While only registered entrants have a guarenteed place in the scenario, we almost always need extra people due to no-shows, real life crisis and what ever. So by all means come along about half an hour to a quater of an hour before the frame starts and ask if there any "walk-on" places available. There's almost always a few, and that way you'll be able to see the conditions scenarios are run under, and the atmosphere they create.

I think scenarios are "it"; that's to say, they're the best experience on line flight simming has to offer, but that's just me. The only way you'll be able to tell is to come along and try it, and as a walk on you can pretty much be sure of getting a flight without being committed to turning up for the whole series.

tojo it was indeed a lot of fun but i have to point out i didnt have anything to do with the 'setting up' part, I just did what you did and turned up,however i took a FL role and as you know Im a 'vocal' type hehe so i probably appeared to be more involved than I really was! (Although ive tried several times for a CM spot) ;)

to the CM staff for setting this up each week, they do a great job thats for sure.I can only recommend you guys try to take a little more of an active role in these events like being a flight leader. Its not always easy, in fact it can be hard work but it really is rewarding.A good control of several radio channels is needed and you have to keep your CO's informed of movements, eta's to targets etc,but it is something you learn with practice.

When it all goes well like in the midway snapshot its truelly the best part of AH.

I hope you all will try it out.

I am glad you enjoyed it.

The CM staff puts on about some sort of special event 4 times a week PLUS Full blown Scenarios 4 times a year.

We are always looking for new things or expanded things to do for ALL AH Pilots.

The CT staff does a great job in the CT Arena.

AH has a lot to offer both in the Main Arena and outside of it.

Enjoy,
