how about some Barnes-Wallace bombs as a loadout for the Lanc, and some hydro dams upstream from factories, barracks, etc, deep in the enemy homeland?

yeah just as in the original mission

but if the spectacular effects of a dam failure can be modeled, I can see a lot of people trying to do it during the short time of arena darkness

Not knowing if you are serious or not;) The Disney bomb was a bomb that had a rocket in its tail to increase it velocity to 2400f/s. The rocket motor would ignite at 5000'. It was to be used against the U-boat pens. Each rocket-bomb weighed 4500lb. The trials were done by the 92ndBG.

What would be an interesting bomb would be the 22,000lb Grand Slam dropped by the Lancaster.

I saw a documentary once, it went about a submarine which launced a torpedo which knocked out a whole CV in one shot!!

sure would be usefull.....
....if we had submarines.....

Both the Tallboy (10.000 lbs) and the Grand slam (20.000 lbs) would be well useable in AH. There is also a whole arsenal of other ordnance that we could well use effectively, such as time fused bombs, incendiaries, parachute bombs, glidebombs, light anty-personnel bombs (for ack crews?) etc. I remember they hada parachute bombs in WB.
The bouncing bomb however would only have a limited purpose, and only if a complex thing like a Hydroplant was implemented in AH. Or what...? How far did they bounce? Far enough for anti-shipping? Actually doubt so, will try to look it up.
But the tallboy and the Grand slam would be cool. Imagine 1 grand slam taking out a town or a field....makes the lannie something to really worry about.

IIRC the B-25s in the PTO used a standard bomb dropped from low level in their skip bombing attacks. Since it wasn't a purpose designed weapon, I suspect that the effective range would have been quite short. Probably therefore only suitable for use against merchantmen and small naval vessels.

A smaller version of the dam-busting 'Upkeep' 'mine' was developed for anti-shipping use; it was code named Highball, and was to be used (two apiece) on the Mossie. One squadron (618 Sqn) was equipped and trained with the weapon, but by the time the problems were ironed out, it was too late for use against the Tirpitz (the original intended target). The squadron was later sent to the Pacific, but saw no action.

I seem to remember the Germans also carried out experiments with a similar weapon, dropped from a Fw-190. I'm not sure whether development was started before or after the Dams raid.

Wasnt the Spinning Highball 3000lbs?

The Mossie couldnt have carried two of them.
The biggest bomb it carried during the war was the Cookie bomb (4000lbs) I believe.
