NO ONE CAN BEAT ME!

I have an X45 saitek joystick/throttle combo.  Mode 1 on the throttle for button D is brakes for the airplane.  Mode 2 for button D on the throttle is primary fire button for when I fly buffs.

Well, I finally got them confused.  And what a time to do so.

My wingman and I were gonna take up a flight of Me-262's.  we get on the runway, and I tell him, hold brakes down when powering up engines to help out with takeoff thrust just a bit.

My throttle was set for mode 2.  We get otr, I push throttle forward and hit button D (thinking it was on mode 1, which was brakes) on throttle.    BANG BANG BANG BANG.  KILLSHOOTER!

(shortest flight of Me-262)

ROFL!  Well, I have done similar myself with the way my Cougar is set up.  Zeb thought it would be a good idea to have 3 settings for the joystick profile for taking off/landing, generally flying around and for dogfighting.  In take-off/landing mode, the 'bomb' button raises and lowers the gear; in general flying mode, it drops a bomb.  So, I take off in JU87 with a BFB and head to an enemy airfield.... I am flying with my squad-mates and agree to hit a SW hangar, start diving down and have a perfect angle on the hangar, hit the bomb button - and nothing!  Still had the setting in take-off mode!  Arrrrrrgh!  :D

Kronos, same happened to me
We had about 5 members in the 56th up in 262's for a little fun. Well, we all made it back to base and 4 of us were on the runway waiting for the last 1 to land. For whatever reason, I decided to fire a few rounds, only thing was were we in formation OTR and I was behind sancho. Before I realized what I was doing... BOOOM. The whole squad broke out laughin thier ars's off.

I don't think i'll ever get off the hook of that one, hehe :D :D :D

Psyco, same here. I only have combat critical stuff on the HOTAS, like guns, views and WEP. Why the *beep* do you need gear operation on your stick? The keyboard is right there, just press the G key.

Brakes used so seldom why map 'em.

I had a similar experience though not in  262. I have a button that toggles through various salvo settings. Went through 'em too fast once and found myself silently floating towards the ground. Added a delay to it after that.

Map right and left whel brakes instead of one key for both.  You can then use the whels brakes to handle better on runway and taxi ways.

For the sake of realism/immersion I use the joystick only for the functions you would normally have available there and views. Helps keep it simple.
