GeForce FX 5800....oh oh

Looks like Nvidia didn't make a Radeon 9700 killer like they claimed.

Although faster than the 9700, it's not by a large margin. Also the 9700 beats the 5800 in several test like Unreal Champ.

The 9700 also wins in the quiet department and appears to have better image quality in the various AA modes and it is over $100.00 U.S. cheaper.

Not good.

And consumes less power and is due for an upgrade - a die shrink.

Shades of 3dfx, anyone?

I have to believe the FX will be NVidia's shortest lived product in history.  Probably explains why they chose to keep all the manufacturing in house.
Makes it less painful to pull the plug on it as soon as they can replace it.

Hang in there Animal.  NV35 might be the cure for you.  Would hate to see you give up on NVidia.  You would not be happy with an ATI card.

One thing for sure.  ATI has no reason to drop the 9700Pro price any further until they ship R350....if they choose to go ahead with R350.

i been thinking of a new vid card for a while (currently GeForce MX40 64mb).

previoulsy i had a 32mb ATI something-or-other, and when i needed new drivers or support it was f****** s***!

there is no other way to describe the HORRIBLE drivers and support they had. i never did get the card running right. i was actually stuck in 640x480 16 color for about a week. the worst part is i sent 10+ emails and 2 snail-mail letters to them and NEVER got a single response. all were consise and to the point never acusatory... untill the last.

this was a short 2 years ago, and i find it hard to believe that the company is still in business. as far as im told all the people i knew had just as bad experiences with them.

what utterly confuses me is all the ATI fanboys here in AH. what am i missing? i hear over and over that the ATI beats the carp outta the GeForce cards. it sounds like GeForce has no business in the graphic industry based on how crappy their best cards work compared to the ATI.

somone PLEASE give me your personal experiences with ATI support. id like to hear if it has changed (im very skeptical though).

also does anyone own BOTH the GrForce Ti4600 128mb AND the ATI 9700? which do you like?

TY in advance and <>
I don't know what to put here yet.

ATI isn't as bad as all that.
I used to own an Nvidia card before I got the 9700 pro and I'm plenty happy with it

I just downloaded new drivers last night... they work very well.
No probs with support, but I haven't needed it either since the card is performing as promised.

Well, I have a GF3 Ti500 and I'm in no hurry to upgrade till everything settles a bit. When Gf3 came out  " the games were not yet written to take advantage of its features". Well I guess they are about now!:D

JB73,..that is way out of line,...calling anyone who says anything good about ATI a fanboy?  I am getting really fed-up with that word.

I have both NVidia and ATI cards as follows:
ATI8500
ATI8500 128MB
ATI9700PRO
NVIDIA GF2 Ultra 64MB
NVIDIA GF4Ti4400

Out of all of them I have less problems with the ATI cards.  But that is only marginal as I have very few problems with the NVidia cards (remember the 40.xx NVidia debacle drivers?).

I have never needed support from either company as the drivers and the products work as advertised.

Has ATI changed?  In a big way over the last 1 year.

Thier drivers used to be horrid.  They had a well earned reputation for it.  But that seems pretty much gone and they appear to have gotten it together.
