What I'd like is a P38 that appear to have the  sped of the real thing.  it's kind of strange to have one engine shot out, yet do over 200kph, but barely break 300 in level flight with two good ones.

Depends on the theater JAB.  I think ETO it did quite well from 15k down to the deck.  While in the PTO it was the opposite.

But I have been wrong before, so...

According to my (infinatly) definitive P38 book (Warren M. Bodie, ISBN 0-9629359-5-6) the numbers with WEP for the P-38J-10-L0 (AC42-67896) which was tested in Dec 10, 1943 are:

MAX SL speed: 345
MAX crit alt speed: 421.5 @ 25,800
Rate of Climb (SL): 4,000 fpm
Rate of Climb (crit alt): 2,900 fpm @ 23,400
Time to crit alt: 6.19 min (23,400)
Service Ceiling: 40,000

I don't see anything wrong with HTC's data.

Here's a World War II P-38 training film and play close attention to the speed capable with only one engine in the P-38.  I'd say that HiTech and crew got it pretty close in AH.

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft says that the L had even more powerful engines than the J.  The L and J were produced in larger numbers than any onther models (3,923 & 2,970 respectively), but since they seem rather similar, wouldn't it be better to have the P-38F, which was "the first to be used on a large scale; it was develoyed in large numbers in Europe towards the middle of 1942 and in North Africa in November."  We need more early war aircraft and the F might be a good candidate.
