Nvidia and a P3
« on: January 29, 2003, 09:58:05 AM »
Decided to upgrade a little bit. On a P3/500 system, swapped out the old TNT Ultra 32mb board w/ a Gf4 ti-4400. Swapped out the PS for a 350W. Am using the 41.09 drivers for the nvidia board. Half a gig 'o RAM. Win98SE.

Absolutely no improvement in FR in AH. :(

Opening and closing windows on the desktop screams, tho.

I have GF card on 2xAA, sharpen textures, vsync on.

Any suggestions on improving these mediocre frame rates?

tia!

I was able to upgrade my Dell P3/550 cpu to a P3/1gig for $100.  Just a quick swap, nothing difficult.  That gave about 50% FR improvement.

Thanks for the replies!

Ok, kilt off 2xAA and downloaded 30.82 drivers.

Is there any voodoo to removing newer drivers and installing these older ones?

Oh, and the cpu upgrade is a good idea.

Thanks!

Oops, well, didn't know about the destroyer thing--just used the remove programs thingie and reverted back to 30.82 -- the result didn't speed the FR up much, but did give bizarre banding in night AH...so I should prolly go back and do it again.....Thanks tho!

Also... that's a pretty old MB.  Are you sure it supports AGP 4x?  Might still be running 2x.
