In what grand light that shines so rare
that the stars and the planets fail to compare.

I am the guide and the carrier of a cargo of seven
Who reached out so boldly to touch the heavens.

Through the void of space I did carry my crew
to thier final resting place in the skies so blue

One last chance for my light to brightly shine
for it is I, Columbia and my cargo's time

I thought I would,..well...I am a bit sad right now.

to the crew of Columbia and may God help the families that were left behind.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

'High Flight' by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

...

In 1986, I was a young child.  I cried when I heard the loss of our space people.

In 2003, I was a young man, I wept when I heard the loss of our heros who risk their lifes for the name of science.

STS-107, Thank you for being a hero, to the United States, and to the World.  Goodbye.  May God's love and blessing be with you.

We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them,  as they prepared for their journey and waved good-bye and "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God."

February 2 2003  Another sad day for humanity :(

January 26 1986. I remember that day :(

I came back from elementary thinking about watching cartoons. I was shocked when I saw a challenger exploded.

How many where in the shuttle?

Shuttle Commander Rick D. Husband

Pilot William C. McCool

Payload Commander Michael P. Anderson

Mission Specialist David M. Brown

Mission Specialist Kalpana Chawla

Mission Specialist Laurel Clark

Mission Specialist Ilan Ramon

I well remember the Challenger in 1986.  They put it on the TVs in each classroom and we watched it for the rest of the day.  Even now I have to change the channel when I see that footage begin to roll.  Watching it over and over and over and over and over on that January day has imprited it in my mind.

Today is very sad.:(
