So What Will Version 1.04 Be Like?
« on: July 26, 2000, 01:44:00 AM »
1.04 is supposed to include naval units, but Pyro later sadid that 1.04 would be lots of small fixes and 1.05 would have naval units.  Now that we have 1.03.4, will 1.04 still be only bug fixes?  Or will we have ships?

Hmm... interesting question. This far after release we usually have an idea about what's planned in the next version. It occurs to me now that I don't know *what* the hell they got up their sleeve for the next release.

Can't help ya

er... but I aint been dissapointed yet.

Here's what I know so far:

Ju-88 A4 [maybe other variants]
Ostwind [37mm mobile AAA]
Lancaster [BIG fraggin bomber]

Terrain mods: A1 will be lowered along with other fixes and changes, mostly minor.

BETA terrain will come back, modified to be vehicle friendly.

Could be more things, but I don't know.

Maybe, there will be some new features, new units (Aicrafts and Vehicles), and bug fixes in v1.04.

Also, I think HTC should add more units for great plane perk system in it.
Oh I can't wait Ki-61.

I doubt we will see many Lancasters in the MA until a RPS is introduced.  With a 24,000ft flight ceiling and only .303s for defense, it would be an easy kill.

Rendar,
yes that is true, but it is balanced out by the tremendous bombload that it can deliver to the target if it gets through.  The Lancaster would certainly be my choice for assisting in the destruction of airfields that are already suppressed.

B-17G:

Tough
Well armed
Moderate bombload

Lancaster:

Tough
Lightly armed
Heavy bombload

I think that the two will balance nicely.  As a sheer bomb truck, nothing beat the Lancaster.

Pyro stated that the maximum bomb size for the Lancaster will be 4,000 lbs.

Grand Slam was 22,000lbs, but required a Lancaster MkI 'Special' to carry it.  That Lanc had a open belly and only the tail turret for defense.  The largest single bomb that the standard Lancaster could carry was the 12,000lb Tall Boy.

As Rendar stated, the largest single bomb that will be available (according to Pyro) will be 4,000lbs.  The Lancaster will probably be able to carry 3 or 4 of them, or 1 and a mix of smaller munitions.

TA "cookie" or "blockbuster" was a 4,000 pound medium capacity bomb. The RAF "heavies" dropped large numbers of these high-explosive bombs along with incendaries.
The RAF developed a 8,000 pound high-capacity bomb which was first used on Feb 10, 1942.

British 30-lb incendiary bomb

British 120-lb GP bomb
Standard inter-war bomb, used at the start of World War 2

British 250-lb Middle Capacity GP bomb
Standard inter-war bomb

British 500-lb GP bomb
Standard inter-war bomb

British 500-lb Medium-Case (MC) Mk III bomb
The MC bomb proved more effective than the ealier GP bombs, due to a higher filling:weight ratio. It was widely used by tactical aircraft, the 500-lb type also finding applications on heavy bomeber aircraft.

British 4,000-lb 'Cookie'
The Cookie is one of the demolition weapons employed by the RAF.

British 8,000-lb 'Cookie'
Two 4,000-lb 'Cookies' bolted together

British 12000-lb High Capacity (HC) bomb
Three 4,000-lb 'Cookies' bolted together, not to be confused with the Tallboy deep penetration bomb.

British 12000-lb 'Tallboy' Deep Penetration Bomb
Could only be carried by the Avro Lancaster.

British 22000-lb 'Grand Slam' bomb
Could only be carried by the Avro Lancaster.

That would be 3 cookies bolted

Well, on opening day version .033 had already handily passed version 3.13 like it was stalled on the side of the road and version 1.2 cruised quickly past version 2.75 leaving 2.75 choking on it's dust.
Then version 1.03 delivered the eulogy to 3.13 and caused version 2.76 to fall so far behind it appeard to fall off the face of the earth.
I expect versions 1.04-.06 to be like a shift into 2nd gear
