New Guy here.  I just stumbled in to AH on Tuesday, still on my free 2 weeks.  I went in the CT first to get my feet wet.  Loved it from the start.  Very cool map.  I will be staying with AH and plan to spend most my time there.
In other SIMMs I have flown, side balancing is everyones responsibility.  It's no fun to have 2 or 3 to 1 odds and be on either side of the fray.  I know that if I long in and it's lopsided I will go to the side that needs the pilots.  Maybe easier said then done but if people understand what they have to gain...FUN!  It should be a problem.

The CT guys have a great opportunity if they choose to take advantage of it.

They've got some great maps, if I were them, I'd ease up on the plane restrictions during the periods that the Pizza is in rotation (maybe open up the planeset and divide it pure Axis/Allied across the board). They'd be surprised how many people would come pouring in.

Used to go to the CT to die...

But I landed a couple kills last time I wandered in, soooo....

Either I'm getting better or the overall skill level has dropped.

Fun stuff though.

I see two problems:

1.  No one knows what's going on in the CT unless you enter the arena and read the briefing or you find out on this BBS.  But your typical furballer probably checks neither.  I never heard of the CT RPS and if I had, I would've participated.

2.  Axis v Allies stups will always make trouble for side-balancing.  I was in yesterday and it was right about a 2-to-1 ratio and the Russians were conquering left and right.

skill level is the same.  You'll run into average pilots, and you'll run into really good pilots.

Lately I've been on the same side as Shane when I've flown, so haven't gotten my arse handed to me by him.  I had Vulcan smack me down a couple of times, and had some really good fights against grunherz that I lost (but one was one of the best fights I've had.)

Other times I've gotten to fight people about the same skill as me, and even had a 6 kill sortie landed in the Buffalo (FM2 that is.)

Sometimes it's like a mini MA where you get overwhelmeed (but 12 to 4 instead of 36 to 12...)  When I'm in the CT, I try to switch sides (and encourage the Mongrels with me) to get on the side that needs help.

Glad you had fun, Rude.  Was nice flying with you instead of seeing your name come up as "Rude shot you down!"  ;)  IIRC, you got 4 kills in a FM2 the same time I had the 6 kill sortie.

For me the CT is like a little fishing lake nestled up in the foothills that few people know about or take notice of.  I would like to keep it that way.

*STAY OUT*

Seriously, if you like historic match-ups over historic terrains and some space to breath, come to the CT.  If all you want is a full plane set and MA furballs then do every CT regular a favour and keep the pollution in the MA.  Just stay there.

Talk to HTC about using some of the excellent terrains used in the CT in the MA but dont feel compelled to come to the CT and start arguing about turning the CT into the MA just because people are bored with the MA rotated terrains.

I was in the CT for a few hours yesterday and had some excellent fights. Its nice to see people whine about the La5 instead of the La7.
This current map is worth seeing if you havent yet. New skins for may AC and a very beautifle map.
The small fields are very cool. the lack of carriers is very cool.  The restrictions on the type of AC is very cool. The Vehicle fight areas are very cool.
I dont think the pilot quality last night when the arena was between 50 and 80 players was any different from the MA.
The only problem I saw yesterday. And I have seen it before on other maps. Is the tendacy to attack undefended fields. You would think that the defenders would up at a near by field and there would be a fairly concentrated fight. But no. A very few people try to oppose a large attacking force while the mass of their country men mass to attack an enemy lightly defended field.

I think there needs to be a setting that only activates a ratio of the fields on the map in relation to the numbers of players that are logged on.  IE 6 people 2 fields per side. 20 people 3 fields per side.  Something to make it more of a combat sim.

I think the RPS would work great in the CT.

How would this work?.. would the setup guy change the plane line up every day? sounds like a good idea.

Would they?... worth a try.. I think opening up the third country also would add to the mix.

An interesting note, the last few weeks CT has been getting a lot of new users.. They said they will be signing up a account just because of the CT.. That's a good sign.

EDIT: A lil' birdie told me next weeks setup will be late war in a European country with lots of planes with Hungarian and Polish, and Russian lend lease markings..

I agree, the CT is a good deal of fun.

I just had cable internet plugged in...my dialup was seeing pings to the Main Arena at about 120.  Adelphia shows 450 in the Main, but 120 for the other arenas.  With Pizza map lasting several days now, I've been spending more time in the CT

HiTech mentioned a new map coming soon for the Main Arena.  I truly hope so, but the CT is a nice change of pace for a while.

When we first started CT, we had an RPS of the war over Europe.  Each week was a year or something like that.  It didn't draw too many people.  Of course we had a lot of other variations from the MA format (icons, radar, strat) along with the planeset change, so don't go overboard drawing conclusions.

I don't fly outside of events more than a couple of hours a month, but it's good to see the CT healthy.

I stumbled into the CT a while ago when the MA was lagging, and it was running a late war LW / USAF scenario. I had fun roping mustangs and lightnings :) ManeTMP

I do agree though.. there is some good fighting to be had in there. Still more fun to mess around with another good pilot in the DA though :)

I was in on Saturday and had a couple of good fights.

Haven't been in a 109 since my WB days. And haven't flown a Lag 5 here so it was all new.

Good time
