MwxX - After my experiences of the past two weeks, I am now the cooling expert!
Read this thread of mine about overheating problems and cooling. For me, it was the actual case that was the problem. It had been bought as a complete system in 1997, when it housed a P2/266. But after two upgrades it contained an Athlon 1.2GHz. The modern AMD processors generate a lot of heat and need a well ventilated case with fans, and my old case was no longer suitable.
I didn't need the Arctic Ice or additional heatsink. Just a more roomy case. Two fans at the front sucking in, two at the back blowing out. My CPU temp has dropped from 64° down to 44°, and the mobo is now at room temp. I never would have believed that the case and adequate ventilation could have made that much difference.
