I think if that happened in the US, the MPs would run out there with their billy clubs, laughing like Ted Bundy on a blind date and cracking skulls, en masse...wonder what the Brits will do?

I think if a bunch of protestors came wearing foil hats, that would probably be meaningful and symbolic.

no one is at war right ? whats the issue

and if it happened here while im enjoying my hard won right to assemble. that an mp comes to knock my head ill hand him his stick back when im done with it. then ill drag his bellybutton to jail and charge him with assault as he attacked me and as im a civilian he hasen't a right in the world to touch me.

I guess I was thinking that the protesters were on gov property with their foil party ..I suppose if they were outside the gate the only crime would be malicious mischief in interfering with gov business.

vader,..you could only charge assualt if the prostest was peaceful and did not interfere with the normal operations of the institution.

And depending on where you wanted to protest, you may be required to obtain permits and right of ways.

What they are suggesting to do would get them arrested here in the U.S. as it is an act of terrorism and not a peaceful protest.

yea and mps wont be doin it.

and there is always a way to disrupt somthing either leagly or otherwise and not get caught. when you have hundreds of people in a nonwartime democracy. you can stop just about anything.

now in cuba or irac this situation would be no problem five minutes and a couple hundred rounds of ammo, presto problem solved.

perhaps you would like it there better?

No way Skuzzy - not in the UK. If they stick to common land and do not try and enter MOD land then it's a peaceful protest.

When you start labelling a democratic right as 'terrorism' you're on a very slippery slope.

My post was referring to if the event was happening here in the U.S.

We do have restrictions on protests. The goal is to keep them peaceful and not allow them to interfere with the rights of an institution to lawfully continue operation.

A group of people deliberately attempting to sabotage the operation of a military/civil communications link would be treated as an act of terrorism and not as a protest.

How it would be handled in England, I have no clue.

Freedom is a multi-way street. To allow one person a freedom that would override another persons freedom is a contridiction.

For instance. You can stand on almost any street corner in the U.S. and talk about your beliefs as long as you want.
You cannot grab someone by the collar and force them to listen. You will get arrested.

It is pretty simple. Your right to freedom cannot overshadow another persons rights.

Granted, there are a lot of gray areas in this, but I believe that is the goal.
