Ditches Awarded For Kills Now!!!

This is probably dreadfully old news to most of you, but I was elated today when I ditched an aircraft that was damaged by enemy fire... and a kill of me was awarded.  WTG HTC.

yup, that's why I always try to make it back to friendly territory before ditching (though a kill was awarded once when I ditched on a couple of miles from a friendly field...)
I think it has more to do with a field in the sector than actual distance to from a friendly field, but it's a real good start

Maybe now we'll see some chivalry when a bird is going down

I have a coupl of questions on that. Agree with you that it is generally a good thing. On the other hand, I went on a far ranging rhubarb and during it was pinged a couple of times, with no damage shown, ran out of gas (stupid move) almost at the base and a good 10min after the pings. Kill awarded....hmmmmm

Have you been able to make actually ditch (gear up) a plane since the last patches? I have tried it with undamaged A/C  flaps out and at 80mph on a sloooow descent. Touchdown, BOOM   everytime. Any hints to help out there?

Woof only 2 times gear up. Its nearly impossible and lead to a lot of annoyement when you rtb with a landing gear damaged and when you touch down at 100mph you read the "you are killed" message...

But I'd rather take this than the before ditch-before-he-kills-me dweebs

Was it really "Kill of YOU awarded to...". ?

Err... I know what ya meant... it doesn't say that literally... BUT.... After the kill was awarded to him, did it say anything like "you have been forced to ditch by..." ?

In my experience, as far as the ditcher is concerned, he still either ditches successfully or gets captured.  No change. The difference now is that the attacker gets credit for the kill (ditch)... which is outstanding!

I thought I was the only one who noticed the new system

---edit----

....and Funked.... ya can add this to the long list of player suggestions that have made it into AH.  Those guys on that other thread of the other sim really have no idea just how good we have it.

Ditched a gear up 47 right down the RW no problems.  Once I stopped though it rocked to the left wing, then bounced to the right, like it was flapping its wings against the RW, very annoying.  It was about to rip itself apart, I exited quick and made it but something is fishy.

I ditched my P-47 with wheels up couple of days ago due to damaged gear. No problem whatsover, just have to make sure your vertical velocity is not so big.
When engine dies, I usually almost immidiatly dive towards the ground, level off, drop flaps and try to keep plane airborn and level for as long as I can.

RAM:

the trick is not to go THAT slow .. when you're so close to stall speed with the engine off you'll have a horrendous sink rate ! And that is killing you, not your landing speed..

I've ditched a few times, gear up, gear down, 1/2 gear down etc.. what i do is i try to keep some speed for the flare and then try to touchdown as soft as any possible.

Ditches in friendly territory should count as kills as well.  In real life if you shot down a plane you got a kill whether it ditched in friendly territory or not.  You caused the plane to make a crash landing.

That was usually unconfirmed kill I'd say...

I think confirmed means that another squadmember witnessed the kill/ditch or your gun cam caught the kill/ditch.  If you forced another plane down it was a kill whether it was in friendly territory or not.  How many of Erich Hartmann's kills were in Russia and involved the plane ditching on friendly territory?  Probably a lot.
