Yet another Bonehead night idea?
« on: February 10, 2003, 12:05:55 PM »
Hi All,
Now that AH has such a large player base and the maps (The new ones) are so much bigger how about a "Rolling night"? Where a band of darkness about 3 - 4 sectors wide continuosly sp? scrolled across the map. It could even happen in real time. That way those who hate the night should alway be able to avoid it.

Just an idea.

WOW!!

I LOVE that idea! Please do it.

(Are current terrains flat or curved? e.g. is gravity just pulling down or to a center somewhere far away?)

that actually sounds almost good...night covering about 64 miles rolling from one side to the other then reappearing like magic at the other end...

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

it would be good because...what other sims (or games... cant be excluding the cfs series) have night...or a well modelled night like this is proposing...could be hard to code but it would be worth it (EVEN IF ITS ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE MISSION ARENA or whaqtever its called now)

I am certain Erl appreciates your quoting him above, but really, can't you come up with your own insult.  If its clever or entertaining, I will use it.

Now, on to your a thesis that a moving 64 mile wide swath of night continually moving throught the MA is "well modelled".  Not only would that be totally UNreallistic, it would never be dark!!

It would only serve to be an annoyance.

Now vort, if you like I can type up a bunch of insults and you can pick your favorite to quote.  Let me know.

I'm all for it, so long as we have primitive civilisations on the ground sacrificing virgins to bring the sun back (that'll get rid of the 12-19 year age group right there!).

It would give an unfair advantage to us Bish who have evolved far enough to have discovered fire and stopped eating our offspring ;)

I like this idea.  No idea how it could be coded though.

Ok Ok... BNM's response is fair enough.

But Furious,,, why do you assume I like the night? In actual fact I don't and thought this might be a way I could avoid it. :)

Thanks Batdog but I don't mind being flamed it's cold in our house, and while someone is ridiculing my idea another one might just sneak through. :)

Maybe if the world was round, but it's not, it's flat I say!
Here we put salt on Margaritas, not sidewalks.
